Grading
40 points – Lab work – All assignments are due at the beginning of class. Items turned in 10 minutes after the start of the
class will not be given full credit. It is best to turn in assignments on the day assigned in lab before you leave, if possible.
20 points – Online Quizzes. These quizzes open on Monday and close on Friday. (4 quizzes, 5 points each!)
20 points* – Attendance/ Participation – 1 point for showing up and 1 for refraining from cell phone/tablet, iPad or
computer usage during lecture portion
10 Points – Scientific Papers. 2 students per topic for 5-8 minutes max. Must include a summary of the paper and a
criticism or helpful comment about the paper discussed.
10 points – Field Trips. If you cannot attend a field trip, you have to turn in a 1 page paper on a topic which will be given
in Lab session.
100 points total
*12 labs total – (10+2 field trips!) 40 Points available!
Student Conduct - Classes will start with a mini lecture and review of lab activity. During this time, please refrain from
using electronic devices. When we break into lab groups, electronic devices may be used only as tools for completing
the lab (e.g. stopwatches, calculators).
Schedule - Lab schedule is subject to change to accommodate field trips. Please check your email for changes to the
lab schedule and field trip details.
