SUMMARY:
As Meter Technician
Responsible for the testing, calibrating, and repairing of all types of watt-hour and demand meters,
including poly-phase meters and current transformers; installs or oversees installation of
poly-phase meters and current transformers; keeping inventory stock of meters, parts and
requisitions for replenishment; performing voltage checks on the system; assisting in or making
load surveys. May be required to read demand and substation meters. May make service calls on
high bill complaints. Assist office staff in monthly billing, disconnects and other duties that may
arise.
As IT Administrator
Completes the planning and coordinating of the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting
and maintenance of the network, hardware, software and information systems for the Cooperative.
As Staking Technician
Responsible for investigating, surveying, and staking electric distribution and transmission lines in
accordance with construction specification; preparing and assigning staking sheets in a manner
that will assure the best possible electric service and the highest quality, continuity and voltage in
the safest, most efficient manner as possible. Update mapping and GPS records.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Other duties may be
assigned.
As Meter Technician
Perform job responsibilities of a Lineman on a limited basis. Must climb and be on call.
Generate and maintain meter inventory and testing records.
Gain and maintain knowledge and skill to use all Cooperative testing equipment, line equipment
and vehicles.
Study National Electric Code, National Electrical Safety Code, RUS Specifications, NISC
Software and the various meter manufacturers literature and bulletins to stay knowledgeable and
up-to-date on new products and all meter applications and features.
Participate in the training of other linemen in meter sizing and applications.
Become familiar with the distribution and transmission feeds, circuits, switches, substation
metering and control equipment, and is able to operate as directed.
Maintain meter removal and installation records and checks actual billing of new accounts to
assure they are being billed correctly.
Coordinate meter readings, re-reads and in and out meter readings for the office to perform them in
the most efficient manner.
Establish a procedure for the testing of all meters on the system for accuracy. Maintain that
procedure in the future, and perform the testing for each class of meter on its applicable revolving
schedule, and maintain the associated recordkeeping of those tests.
Ability to test all meters on the system so the members can be assured they are being billed for
actual electric usage and to assure no errors exist in the Cooperative's metering of electricity
consumption by the member for billing purposes.
As IT Administrator
Plan and coordinate the installation, testing, operation, troubleshooting and maintenance of
hardware, software, network and information systems.
As Staking Technician
Perform all duties of a Staking Technician.
Learn and stay current on NEC and NESC to assure all staked line work exceeds minimum
requirements of the codes.
Direct and perform maintenance on automated mapping and facilities management system to
assure accurate documentation. Ensure maps are up-to-date and GPS is complete.
Prepare right-of-way maps, legal descriptions and easements and direct the maintenance of the
easement files and recoding in the respective county recorder office as appropriate.
Utilize GIS and data processing equipment as needed to draft staking sheets and facility layout and
to produce material sheets for construction projects.
Maintain, correct and update distribution system circuit diagram and consumer location maps as
needed.
Design power lines to fit the locality, weather condition, local activity and operations within or
exceeding the requirements of the established RUS specifications.
Review construction methods; assist in establishing and reviewing line construction designs to
improve the way lines are built and to improve construction and maintenance practices. Manage
construction projects for cost control.
Maintain records necessary for work order accounting procedures and to support the formulation
of work plans and reports required by regulatory agencies.
Record easements with applicable county officials. Will also work with county officials on
permitting issues.
Give courteous and accurate answers to member inquiries or requests. Explain at every
opportunity the services offered, policies, rates, procedures and benefits to which a member of the
Cooperative is entitled and to promote sense of ownership among the members.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Line work preferred, must take as directed the Merchant course or equivalent certification
as lineman. Certification as a Meter Technician is preferred but training towards a Meter
Technician certificate will be considered.
High School education or equivalent is required. Courses in electricity, mathematics,
manual arts, mechanical drawing and computer information systems preferred.
LANGUAGE:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, technical drawings, specifications and
related information.
REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to apply common-sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in
written, oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete
variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:
Must be skilled in pole climbing and in using lineman tools when working on a pole. Must
be skilled in safe and proper bucket truck operations and be familiar with "hot-line" rubber
gloving techniques.
Must be familiar with all work required in connection with the installation of materials,
apparatus and equipment used in the construction and maintenance of electric distribution
and transmission lines, substations and service to or on consumer’s premises with little or
no supervision.
Must have and maintain a minimum Class A, Type 2, Commercial Drivers License and
must be able to provide documentary proof.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be physically and mentally able to continuously perform strenuous tasks such as climbing
power poles and ladders; lifting weight at least 75 pounds, carrying weight at least 75 pounds, and
holding over long periods of time; able to walk for up to eight hours outside in all types of weather
and over all types of terrain; and be willing to accept duty calls under adverse weather conditions
24 hours a day.
Initial and annual medical evaluation required to determine ability to perform essential job
functions and subject to random drug testing.
