Sant Josep Market, better known as ""La Boqueria"", is in the heart of La Rambla Avenue. It is
Barcelona's most famous and picturesque market. This emblematic spot in the city, in what
was once the patio of Sant Josep Church, was inaugurated in 1836. Initially the market was
open-air, with travelling sellers' and farmers' stalls, selling their goods directly to the public. It
was eventually covered and made into an indoor market in 1914. The exterior of La Boqueria
is a metallic/glass structure. Nevertheless, it is the inside that is most interesting, making this
market, famous for the quality and diversity of products on sale from all over the world, a
place well worth visiting. The best way to feel its special atmosphere is to stroll around the
stalls with fruit and vegetables, fish and meat, and pop into its bars and restaurants to enjoy
the mixture of sounds, aromas and flavours.

*During the trip pupils will be assigned a group and a group leader, who they will have to stay with unless given
specific instruction that they have free time. We do appreciate that part of the joy of a school trip is having free time
and the chance to explore. However to enjoy this privilege pupils must report to their group leader at specified times
so that we can ensure their wellbeing. We will take into consideration any requests made for groups and will
endeavor to ensure that all pupils feel happy and comfortable with the groups that they are in.
In case of Emergency.
If you have any reason at all to contact your child or the part leader during the trip please make first contact with the
school itself. The school will be able to contact us in Barcelona, as we have a school mobile. Therefore we are also
able to keep in contact with you and will ensure to do so if the need arises.
All pupils will be provided with the school mobile number on the trip, in case of emergency. They will also be
provided with the Hotel number and the emergency numbers for the region.
The trip is insured with Endsleigh and includes 24 hr emergency medical insurance.
If your child has an EHIC (European Health Insurance Card) then please do ensure that they bring it, as it will speed
along any time in medical institutions, however it is not essential.
We will be holding a meeting on Tuesday 17th March for all parents who wish to hear more about the trip and for
any other questions that you may have. It will take place in the main hall and will start at 6pm.Please could you
indicate in the reply slip below if you intend to attend this meeting, so that we can get the hall set up effectively.
I hope that all of you are getting as excited about the trip as we are at Prendergast Vale College. It is going to be a
fabulous experience.
Yours Faithfully,
