In keeping with Routt County’s commitment to a sustainable environment, Main Street Steamboat Springs Farmers Markets are a Zero Waste Event. The goal of a Zero Waste Event is that all discards are recyclable or compostable, so there is little to no waste. Our minimal waste goal is simple to attain. The following is a guide to help you purchase the appropriate compostable and recyclable food containers. Acceptable Containers and Service Ware All paper containers including plates, bowls, cups, etc. with no plastic coating. Waxed paper products, preferably soy based, where the coating will scratch off with fingernail. Non-Acceptable Containers and Service Ware All Styrofoam (polystyrene) products. These are NOT recyclable regardless of what suppliers may say despite Mobius symbol and number on the product. Plastic and wax coated products where the coating will not scratch off. Recyclable cups or containers with Mobius numbers rating 1-7. All single‐use plates, bowls, cups and utensils made from PLA (Polylactic acid), bagasse (sugarcane fiber), or corn or vegetable starch, that are BPI‐certified compostable and ASTM compliant. Paper napkins or paper towels made with 100% postconsumer recycled content and are unbleached. Paper lids, Paper bags, and waxed paper products. Lids made from PLA (Polylactic acid), bagasse (sugarcane fiber), or corn or vegetable starch, that are BPI‐certified compostable and ASTM compliant. Aluminum foil and cans Tin Glass bottles, jars and containers. Paper milk/juice cartons including drink boxes Any non-Mobius number rated cups or containers. No single use plastic plates, bowls, cups, or utensils that do NOT have a Mobius number rating of 1-7 indicated on the product. It is critical that you do not bring products made of Styrofoam or non‐recyclable plastic. We also ask that you do not use personal consumption packets (like little ketchup packs) for condiments. No wax lined containers. Please note that you will be asked to remove any non‐recyclable or non‐compostable items from your salable products for the duration of the season. There are many sources for compostable materials that can be purchased easily including local vendors, such as Steve Green Company, US Foods and Sysco, and also through Eco‐Products at www.biodegradablestore.com. Eco-products have nearly every product you could possibly need, and multiple quantities available for each product. When and where possible, buy local!
