The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and administration of budgets. Provides consultation to health departments, hospitals and private clinics, physicians, Veteran Administration hospitals and the Cuban Refugee Center in regard to the collection and transportation of specimens, isolation of disease organisms, and the services offered by the laboratories. Directs the planning for special studies, field surveys, and/or other biological or health related projects. Directs the inspection, evaluation, and certification of private laboratories. Develops methods and techniques for, and evaluates results of, experiments. Prepares and reviews manuscripts for publication and presentation at scientific meetings. Directs changes and modifies biological research or management plans. Performs related work as required.
