 TC updates
ETMG Meetings
 The December ETMG telecon will be canceled due to the holidays.
 The January ETMG telecon will also most likely be canceled since we will have a face-to-face meeting
at Sci-Tech.
 The EMTG leadership at Sci-Tech will take place on Sunday, January 12, 2014, at 6:30 to 8:30 PM in
Chesapeake conference room 9. This is not a dinner meeting, but there will be dessert (there should
be time for folks to grab dinner before the meeting). I will send out a meeting notice in Outlook in
order to get a head count.
TAC Action Items:
 TAC will hold Deputy Director and TC/PC Chair Training and the TAC workshop on Sunday January 12
as part of Sci-Tech. But the format will be a little different than in past years.
o TC/PC Chair Training will run from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM (including lunch). This will allow more
time for Q&A.
o The workshop will be a presentation by staff on the options for virtual opportunities
(conferences, etc.) and the vendor that has been identified to support these efforts. The
workshop will be a data-dump and open discussion. In particular, staff is looking for ideas on
what we see as useful virtual offerings and would also like to gage the cost threshold that is
reasonable for each offering.
o Registration forms for the training and workshop are due to Betty by December 11.
 Reminder that updated TC rosters and the TC annual reports are due January 31.
NIS Update: Abdi reported that there have been no NIS telecons the past couple of months but that
there is a telecon scheduled for tomorrow (November 20). He will provide an email update to the ETMG
if needed.
TC updates:

Systems Engineering (John):
o Overall things are going well with the TC.
o They have one paper session set for Sci-Tech (Tuesday afternoon).
o Face-2-face meeting on Wednesday at Sci-Tech (January 15).
o Three SETC members were named AIAA Associate Fellows. Congrats!
o The Value-Driven Design PC may also be meeting at Sci-Tech.
o The Technical Review Subcommittee held their kick-off meeting last week.
o The TC will probably also hold a F2F meeting at Space.

Society and Aerospace Technology (Steve ):
o The ComicCon in Pittsburgh was a big hit. Opportunity to interact with 300 attendees. Handed
out a lot of aerospace material (copies of Aerospace America, the SATTC pocket guide and some
AIAA trinkets). Seems like a great way to reach out to the general population. More details
pending from John Christian and Jarret Lafleur.

Economics (Jairus):
o Planning on another Cost/Risk Workshop in March. This one will be hosted by the Aerospace
Corp.

Management (Tom):
o The TC completed the review of a proposed short course on business basics for engineers. They
thought it was a good concept and gave their approval to AIAA.
o The Hap Arnold award was not given in 2013, but they now have enough nomination packages
to support the award in the upcoming award cycle.
o TCM meeting slate for 2014:
 February: Huntsville; subject is Additive Manufacturing. MSFC Director is on the agenda;
hoping that Mike Griffin will also be available.
 June: Williamsburg with the AIAA Aerospace Today and Tomorrow Event.
 October: Dayton
o We need to work on the Forum Integration Tier. Suggest a discussion with Basil and Allen. This
is also on TAC’s radar. Allen will set up a telecon.
