MINTER’S CHAPEL CEMETERY ASSOCIATION
Minutes from May 5, 2012 Meeting at the Minter’s Chapel Cemetery:
1. Mary Hensarling, President of MCCA, called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone.
2. Introduced the other association members that were present: Vice President—Donna Hutson, Treasurer—Tanya
Hodges, Secretary — Pam Bach, Historian—Michele Roderick, and Grounds Care—Mike Hensarling. Trustee, Kila
Bach was unable to attend the meeting.
3. Mary thanked the many that had gathered today and asked for others to share the names of their descendents that
are buried at Minter’s Chapel Cemetery. The following families were represented by ones attending today:
Anderson, Emorys, Hodges, Hudgins, Huffmans, and Wells. We all complemented Mike on the look of the cemetery!
4. Told of the passing of Mary Nell Hunter Frizzell this year and reminded that she had served as a trustee for the
cemetery association in past years. Mary Nell had passed on to her children the stories of her father Lucian Hudgins
that is buried in the Minters Chapel Cemetery.
5. Also told of the passing of Milus M. Hodges, Jr. this year, whom everyone knew as Junior. He had grown up in the
Minters Chapel community and attended the church and the yearly gatherings for many years. Junior was buried in
the Arlington Memorial cemetery for veterans.
6. Mary shared her experience as a child, traveling down Glade Road to the Minters Chapel church and cemetery, what
we remember as the “tunnel of trees” that led to the cemetery.
7. History of the cemetery was shared by the trustees, as some of the young attendees looked through the history
books. All were reminded of the early struggles of the church members when the DFW airport was being planned in
the 1960s. The church was made to relocate but the cemetery grounds were allowed to remain.
8. Mary Hensarling and Mary Price shared the story of Lloyd Huffman, who had traveled to Washington on behalf of the
community to express their words “to not move the cemetery.” It was thought that Lyndon and Lady Bird Johnson
might have helped with that cause.
9. Trustees thanked all for contributions that help take care of the cemetery.
10. Meeting was adjourned; a prayer was given by Mike Hensarling before the meal was enjoyed; visits continued.
