LIVERPOOL SCHOOL OF TROPICAL MEDICINE Post: Senior Technical Officer responsible for National Maternal, Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) Coordination Responsible to: Senior Technical Officer Location: Nairobi, with travel within Kenya Summary of the role: The Reproductive and Maternal Health Services Unit (RMHSU) of the Kenyan Ministry of Health (MoH) plans, implements and monitors programmes to promote the reproductive health of the Kenyan people. Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR) is a key strategy currently being implemented by the RMHSU in the MoH. The Senior Technical Officer/National MPDSR Coordinator will assist the MoH to develop the existing maternal and perinatal death review systems into a fully operational Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response System (MPDSR) and integrate it with existing systems and activities. The post will provide central coordination for MPDSR across Kenya and will be required to support the National MPDSR committee, county, facility and community committees as well as improve coordination of maternal and perinatal/neonatal death data, analysis, reporting and dissemination. You will have excellent oral and written communication skills and a willingness to contribute to a measurable improvement in maternal and newborn health across Kenya. The post will be based at the national Ministry of Health office in Nairobi however duties will require periodic travel to the counties. Main duties: The post holder will: Liaise with LSTM Kenya and UK based staff and the Ministry of Health to organize capacity building of National and regional committees. Work together with partners in the development of the national MPDSR database and provide quality assurance of data. Provide regular data analysis and reporting of MPDSR data at national, county and community levels. Preparation of presentations for dissemination at technical working group meetings and committees. Prepare relevant reports on MPDSR as needed by the Head, Reproductive and Maternal Health Services Unit, Ministry of Health Kenya Develop and disseminate MPDSR communication materials. 1 Coordinate MPDSR planning and dissemination meetings at national level (National MPDSR committee and parliamentary committee), county and sub-county level (leadership meetings) and at community level.
