They became cavemen and took part in a “wall painting” session using feathers, sticks and hands. The children had a fantastic day and behaved impeccably. WW1 Centenary Project Thank you to everyone that has taken part in our WW1 Centenary Project, we have been overwhelmed by how many families have embraced this project. We have had contributions from well over 100 families, and we know that this will provide everyone with a lasting legacy. A huge thank you to Kate Phillips for leading this project and investing so much time and effort to help bring our family histories to life. Our thanks too to Mrs Brook, Mrs Donald, Mrs Palmer and Mrs Smith who have helped with the logistics. Children in Need The school was filled with Superheroes on Thursday of this week, to help raise money for today’s Children In Need Appeal. Samaritan’s Purse Shoe Boxes – Final request “The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to demonstrate God’s love in a tangible way to needy children around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the ‘Good News of Jesus Christ’” Just a reminder that our Shoe Boxes will be collected from School on Monday of next week, 17th November. We appreciate that many of you contribute to this appeal through Churches or other schools, however, if you are still keen to contribute through School, please bring your boxes by Monday morning. Reception Admissions for September 2015 If your child is due to start school in September 2015, please be aware that the online application system opened on the 11th November. The application website is www.kent.gov.uk/ola If your child is a sibling of an existing pupil and you wish to apply for a place, you will need to apply on line and, in addition, you will need to complete a Supplementary Form and return this to the School Office. This form can be found on our school website under Admissions. The deadline for online admissions to Kent and for returning the completed Supplementary Forms to the School is the 15th January 2015. We would be grateful if you could notify the School Office, as soon as possible, if you are applying for a school place under the sibling criteria. The Orchard Breakfast and After School Club Further to last week’s Newsletter, a reminder that The Orchard Breakfast and After School Club are now taking bookings for January 2015. If you would like to request a space, or be added to the waiting list, please return a booking form to the office. Lighting on School Driveway As you may be aware, we are having some technical problems with the lighting on the school driveway and we are urgently trying to resolve this. Please take great care when coming to or from the school after dark, and keep to the footpaths. Many thanks. Parent Consultation Evenings If you have not booked an appointment for the Parent Consultation Evenings on 18th and 19th November (excluding Year 6), please call the School Office. Clubs on the 18th and 19th November With the exception of Playball, on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week, the 18th and 19th, there will be no after school clubs because of Parent Consultations. Please collect your children at 3.30pm. Clubs cancelled are: Sparks; hockey; ICT; contemporary dance (Yr5 and 6); Scrabble Challenge and senior football. FOM Christmas Fair The Worship Council will be running a FOM stall at the Christmas Fair. They would be grateful for any unwanted children’s DVD’s (unscratched please!!) as the children are running a ‘Saturday Movie Night’ stall! You will also be able to buy popcorn too! If you could drop the DVD’s in at the office they would be more than grateful. Many thanks. PTA House Hampers Please see below, details from the PTA regarding the Christmas Fair. The raffle prizes this year will be House Hampers. These exciting hampers will be filled with house colour themed gifts for both adults and children. The PTA would like to ask all parents and carers to contribute to the hampers. They have asked if each child could please contribute a gift in their house colour, these items will make up the prize hampers. Please note that there are collection boxes in the School Reception area for anyone wishing to contribute an item. Safety outside the School Again, this week we have had a parent (registration number GM14 XTY) parking in the hashed zone immediately outside the school gates and using this area for turning. We remain extremely concerned that this compromises the safety of our children. Swimming for Terms 2 Years 3 and 4 will be swimming from 6/11 to 11/12 (6 sessions) Year 5 will be swimming from 6/11 to 20/11 (3 sessions) Year 6 will be swimming from 27/11 to 11/12 (3 sessions) Swimming for Terms 3 and 4 Years 3, 4 and 6 will be swimming from 8/1/15 to 12/2/15 The KS2 Swimming Gala will take place on the 12/2/15 so Year 5 will also be swimming on that day A message from the PTA: Diary dates … Christmas Fair Saturday 6th December from 1.00 to 4.00pm Dear parents and carers As you may know, the Christmas Fair will be held on the 6th December. Again this year, we will be organising a Christmas raffle and the winning tickets will be drawn at the Christmas Fair on the 6th. The prizes this year will be House Hampers. These exciting hampers will be filled with house colour themed gifts for both adults and children. We'd like to ask all parents and carers to contribute to the hampers please. If each child could please contribute a gift in their house colour, these items will make up the prize hampers. Contributions including food, sweets, Christmas fayre (with best before dates at least end of December and no spirits please), small toys, books, bath and beauty products, Christmas decorations etc. would be welcomed - only new please rather than used or nearly new. Between 10th and 21st November there will be boxes for each house in the hall where the gifts can be placed. You will get the chance to buy raffle tickets before the Christmas Fair. All children will be given raffle tickets to bring home for you and your friends and family to buy. All money raised from the raffle will go to the PTA for continued school improvements and equipment for your children at school. Many thanks PTA Stonepitts Farm Christmas Trees Once again, this year, Stonepitts Farm has kindly offered to donate £2.00 to Lady Boswell’s School for every Christmas tree bought by families, friends and staff. Stonepitts will also make a contribution to Help the Heroes for all trees sold.
