Early Childhood

ECSE classrooms service 3 and 4 year old students with moderate to
significant delays, and include 2 peer models that exhibit advanced
language skills.

Blended classrooms service 3 year olds with moderate delays, 4 year old,
with mild to moderate delays, and Title-I 4 year olds.

Title-I classrooms service 4 year olds with moderate delays and 4 year old
Title-I students.
Elementary (K-6)

Specialized instruction for students who are eligible for services under any
IDEA eligibility category. Special Education teacher often supports
regular education curriculum. Least Restrictive of all Special Education
placements. Often referred to as a Resource room.
Locations: All Elementary schools

Specialized instruction for students that require the majority of their core
curriculum to be provided through specialized instruction. Their core
curriculum would be focused on the essential and foundational skills of the
curriculum. The students often have deficits in adaptive behaviors, so
those daily life skills need to be taught at school.
Locations: Carden Park, Edison, Field, Lake, Lindbergh, Oak Grove, Pickett, and
Skaith

Specialized instruction for students with typical characteristics of those on
the Autism Spectrum, but not limited to students identified with Autism.
Specialized individual instruction often includes picture exchange
communication systems, discrete trial training, sensory integration, applied
behavior analysis, and a focus on language development.
Locations: Oak Grove (PK-6)

Specialized instruction for students whose curriculum focuses on essential
foundational academic skills. Students who need frequent practice of
skills to be able to generalize into the traditional academic setting.
Primarily for students with moderate to severe intellectual disabilities.
Location: Coleman (K-6)

Specialized instruction for students whose behavior or emotional needs
get in the way of their learning. IEP goals/objectives center on
developing appropriate behaviors for accessing learning in the Least
Restrictive Environment. Specialized instruction is a parallel curriculum with
access to the regular education curriculum supported by positive
behavior intervention programs.
Locations: Ellison (K-2) and Carden Park (3-6)

Specialized instruction for students who may be in need of a parallel
curriculum or an alternative curriculum. Primarily for those students with
severe emotional disturbances and/or behavior issues. Located in a
separate school, and therefore students do not have opportunities for
daily access to nondisabled peers.
Locations: Colgan Alternative Resource Center (Building Bridges) (K-12),
Middle School (7-8)

