Performs Glucose Testing Using the Accu-Chek Inform II

Routine Testing Procedure
Cleanse with alcohol area of finger to be lanced. Allow to air dry.
Turn on bedside glucose meter.
Check battery status and f low place on charger.
Scan operator ID.
Select patient test.
Scan patient ID; if manually entering ID must include the letters “SV or PV” and all numbers including zeros.
Scan barcode on strip vial.
Insert strip.
Lance finger with appropriate device and depth and wipe away first drop of blood.
Hold meter at an angle.
Apply blood to strip.
If strip is properly dosed no yellow will be visible.
Results will be displayed within 5 seconds of application.
Select “Comment” button and enter appropriate comments (up to 3 choices). Typical comment is “Expected Result.”
Use “Repeat Test: only when the test was an error.
When done select “Checkmark” key to return to patient result. Select “Checkmark” key a second time to return to Main menu.
Discard strip and blood drawing supplies in appropriate biohazard waste receptacle.
Clean meter after every use with a small bleach pad.

Turn on bedside glucose meter.
Scan or manually enter operator ID and select “right arrow” key to get to Main Menu.
Select “Review Result.”
Results are displayed in reverse chronological order or select option “Patient” and enter patient ID or scan patient ID.
Verbalizes for Best Results and Troubleshooting.
Getting a good drop of blood and never using first drop of blood.
Troubleshooting “error messages,” e.g., dosed too soon, not enough blood, strips outdated or exposed to air, etc.
Troubleshooting when QC fails (inadvertent QC switch, not enough dosing, prolonged exposure of strips, replacing QC, and repeating
QC test).
Verbalizes “Repeat Test” is only used if test was an error and results are to be excluded from patient medical record.
