YHA Nelson
Thank you for your interest regarding accommodation at YHA Nelson. Nelson is the accommodation leader
for groups with many repeat customers annually. We provide quality, secure and affordable
accommodation.
YHA Nelson accommodates all types of groups from schools and colleges, to sporting and cultural groups.
Please contact us to discuss your requirements before making a booking.
YHA Nelson is set in the heart of Nelson, next to the famous Nelson Market and in within easy walking
distance of the Trafalgar Centre, Trafalgar Park, Rutherford Hotel and the Nelson Colleges.
Alongside our partners, YHA New Zealand can organize your transportation, accommodation, meals and
activities. Just tell us your needs and we’ll do our best to facilitate your stay.
Capacity and Room Types
YHA Nelson can cater for up to 92 people across 31 rooms.

YHA's Commitment to your Group
Staff at YHA Nelson’s reception all have several years experience and are trained to ensure your
requirements are met and you have an enjoyable stay.

On arrival you will receive a group welcome explaining all the safety procedures and the hostel
rules

You will be allocated separate group bedrooms and will not be expected to share with other guests
not in your group

The tour leader rooms will be allocated in the same area of the hostel to facilitate effective
supervision (subject to availability)

YHA staff are trained and capable of handling emergency situations and 100% of our frontline staff
have full Red Cross First Aid training

YHA will take all reasonable precautions to ensure the safety and security of your group and their
property

A staff member will be available during reception hours for normal issues and the rest of the time
for emergencies

The main entrance is locked at night and only guests issued with the access code (changed often)
can access the building.
The accommodation
YHA Nelson is a single building with two levels. We endeavor to keep all group members and the group
leader in the same area. All bedrooms have locks. We can provide a spare set of keys to leaders to access
all rooms allocated to your group if you wish.
Shared rooms
Group members are accommodated in comfortable rooms with 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 bed rooms. Shared single
sex bathroom facilities are available. Bathrooms are throughout the building so they are always near
bedrooms. All bedding is provided (duvets, sheets and pillows) and towels can be hired for $1.
Private rooms
Supervisors and tour leaders can be accommodated in private single, double or twin rooms. These rooms
include all bed linen and towels. Please note: we have a limited number of rooms with ensuite facilities and
they are subject to availability.

All our prices are quoted in New Zealand Dollars and inclusive of GST.

Free WiFi for Group Leaders
We know being a group leader is tough work at the best of times and you need to stay contactable as much
as possible to keep things running smoothly. To help you stay connected YHA offers provides group leaders
with free high speed WiFi during their stay.
Group Membership
Group membership covers 10 or more persons travelling as part of a group, is valid 12 months worldwide
and is now free. Our group reservations team can arrange YHA membership to be picked up on your arrival
in Nelson. Membership benefits include special group rates at YHA hostels in New Zealand and around the
world and free WiFi for tour leaders at YHA groups hostels.

Transport and getting to YHA Nelson
From airport
10 minute drive from Nelson Airport. A chartered shuttle (11 people) from the airport is $50.
By car
From East (Blenheim direction): follow State highway 6 to the roundabout. Turn left along Trafalgar St
to the traffic lights. Turn right along Halifax St to the Traffic lights. Turn left down Rutherford St. We are
number 59.
From South/West (Richmond direction): Follow State highway 6 from Richmond towards Nelson until
the second roundabout, take the second exit. This road will take you to the centre of Nelson and goes
directly past this hostel. (59 Rutherford Street).
By bus/coach
First ask the bus driver as they may drop you directly to the hostel. Otherwise:
Intercity: go right from the bus depot to the traffic lights (100m), turn left and we are the third building
along.
Buses which stop at the information centre: go west along Halifax Street to the next traffic lights. Turn
left into Rutherford Street and we are number 59 (just past the next traffic lights)
Parking
There is a public car park next to the hostel. Parking is free overnight and free Saturday afternoon, all
Sunday and public holidays. Parking $1 per hour 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm
Saturday (Limited to 3 hours parking before being required to move). If you require free parking during
office hours please ask at reception for directions.
There is a bus stop directly outside the hostel on Rutherford St.
