Essential Question: How can you predict what comes next in a repeating pattern? Essential Question: How can a repeating shape pattern be extended? Display several shape patterns on the board. Ask students to draw the next pattern for each set of shapes. Students can draw shapes on their dry erase boards. Ask students to identify the pattern unit in each group of shapes. Next, View card 9-2 (Use mini lmo).Complete Daily Spiral Review and the Problem of the Day. Set the purpose by telling the students that they have learned how to find a pattern and see what repeats. Today they will learn how to predict what comes next in a pattern. Connect with the students by completing the Connect activity in the Engage section on page 247. Next, Pose the Problem by distributing the connecting cubes and instruct the Display pattern blocks in a pattern, under the mimo. Place an odd pattern block in the pattern unit. Ask the students to draw on their dry erase boards the shape that does belong and ask them why. Next, View card 9-3 (Use mini lmo).Complete Daily Spiral Review and the Problem of the Day. Set the purpose by telling the students that they have learned about color patterns. Today you will learn about shape patterns. Connect with the students by completing the Connect activity in the Engage section on page 251. Next, complete Pose the Problem. Then complete the Model/Demonstrate section. Finally, complete Small Group Interaction. Instruct students to Essential Question: How can finding a pattern help to solve a problem? Students will review identifying patterns by taking part in a pattern game online. http://www.abcya.com/patternStude nts will complete Free Response test. Discuss answers in class. Homework: Study Free Response test. students to make a pattern. Discuss students responses. Then discuss Academic Vocabulary: predict. Next, discuss Model/Demonstrate.
