TATIARA TAKES TO THE TURF The Tatiara Hockey Association played at the turf field at Edenhope last Saturday. ROOKIES The Rookies at Edenhope had a great day in the warmer weather. Training started with great ball skills and passing games. Then, out onto the main field, the Rookies began a game between the Blue and Yellow players. Great team work and co-operation was seen, as Harry Schwarz displayed good hits, as some great saves were seen by Lewis Green and Eva Fiebig. No goals were gained but all had a great experience on the turf, and showed great sportsmanship during the game. JUNIORS Paladins v Knights The first game at Edenhope began with much enthusiasm from both sides. It didn’t take long for the Knights to have their first attempt at goal as the game took off at a fast pace on the turf. A short corner in their favour allowed the Knights to score their first goal through Thomas Verco. The Paladins did well to carry the ball down the field but Knights’ defence line made it hard for Paladins to gain any forward opportunities. The Knights brought the ball into their attack for an attempt at goal, however went wide of the goals with no score. Hannah Dinning and Amy Drabsch were working hard for Paladins’ attack, achieving some great offensive play however unable to break through the Knights’ defence. The Knights gained another short corner, but they couldn’t convert after some good clearance from the Paladins’ defence. Isaac Stanton had a great attempt at goal for the Paladins, however it was Bridie Hamilton who eventually executed the goal levelling the score at half time. A couple of minutes into the second half and Bonnie Johnson proved too quick for the Paladins as she converted a second goal for Knights. Jake Andersen and Amy Drabsch continued to work well together in order to hold the Knights back. Thomas Verco gave Osten Martin opportunity to score again for Knights, but further attempts were prevented as Paladins once again cleared the ball off a short corner. Abbey Llewellyn attacked hard for the Paladins, having a great attempt at goal, as Siobhan Evans backed up strongly. However, as the game was drawing to an end, Knights managed to bring the ball down into their attack for a final goal from Bonnie Johnson. Knights 3 d. Goal Scorers: Bridie Hamilton. Crusaders v Kings The first half was an even contest to begin the second Junior’s match. Crusaders attacked well, pushing towards their circle; however Zack Martin and Sophie Greenslade were strong in defence for the Kings. Taya Woodall also showed some great skills in defence, working to push the Crusaders back and into Kings attack. Marc Rowsell continued to work hard in the middle alongside Tilly Hamilton for the Crusaders, who scored the only goal in the first half. Tyson Stewart had some great touches on the wing for Kings, creating some good passages of play in the second half. Sophie Greenslade forced the ball into their attack gaining a short corner that Crusaders defended well. Zac Staude worked well in defence, pushing the ball forward to Ryan Boyd who escaped down the wing before scoring a second goal for the Crusaders. Kings then quickly retaliated, at first missing their opportunity and then converting a goal through Zack Martin seconds from the final whistle. Crusaders 2 d. Goal Scorers: Zack Martin. WOMEN Mundulla v Bordertown Both sides took early advantage of the turf fields at Edenhope on Saturday, each team working together well, as good passing between players saw an evenly matched game. Strong attack led to the first and second goal for Mundulla in quick succession. The Wozzies did not give in, as they continued to defend and lead the ball into their forward line for attempts at goal. However, Mundulla were strong at all areas, and applied pressure on the Bordertown team. Andrea Taylor in Wozzies’ defence continued to turn back the play to her side as Mundulla continued to attack. Ryan Boyd in goals for the Bordertown made numerous saves, however after injury stepped aside as Eliza Llewellyn took position in their goals for part of the game. Mundulla kept their play open and wide, and were able to get through the defensive twice to score further goals. Wozzies closed in and restricted their attack, but were unable to move the ball into their forward line to make a score. Mundulla 4 d. Bordertown- Best Players: Laura Nash, Lucy Tink, Sophie Greenslade. Willalooka v Keith The turf made for a fast game between the two hotly contested teams, as the Keith Crows worked hard to keep the ball close to their goal. Two short corners were awarded, however they were unable to score. A quick turnaround led to attack for Willalooka which resulted in a goal through Anna Smart. Keith fought back with another few short corners, but it was to no avail as the Willalooka defence held them back through Leisha Slattery and Lauren Dinning. Amy Drabsch and Sarah Densley were strong in defense for the Crows as Willalooka continued to push forward. Allie Brinkworth made a break for the Crows and looked for a score; however goalie Angus Llewellyn made a brilliant save and prevented any goal. Willalooka soon brought back the ball and scored their second, again through hard attacker Anna Smart. Keith attempted to score again, however Willalooka took control of the play, gaining two short corners in their favour. Anna Dawes, Nicky Schreiber, and goalie Saranne Nicholls worked hard to prevent another Willalooka score. At half time the score remained two goals up to Willalooka. The second half saw early attack from Willalooka, quickly scoring straight off with a goal from Emilie Hoyes-Cock. Saranne Nicholls remained strong in goals however, preventing numerous opportunities for Willalooka. They kept the play in their attack, and with some great positioning scored their fourth goal through Jen Llewellyn. Great work by Mieka Woodall for the Crows took passes wide to bring play into their attack; however Keith could not bring up their score as full time was called. Willalooka 4 d. Keith 0 Willalooka- Best Players: Jamie Prosser, Anna Smart, Lizzie Coplestone. Goal Scorers: Anna Smart 2, Emilie Hoyes-Cock, Jen Llewellyn. Keith- Best Players: Allie Brinkworth, Anna Dawes, Zack Martin. MEN Bordertown v Mundulla Bordertown started the game strongly as they attacked hard, resulting in a goal through Tim Diment. A short corner helped Mundulla to retaliate, as Reilly Sanders took a high shot and scored over the goalie. Rangers attempted to take back the lead with a few more opportunities off of short corners, however they were unable to capitalise. Mundulla then had a quick break, Reilly Sanders scoring once more through a short corner. Play continued back and forth, remaining even up until half time. In the second half, Trent Stewart and Ash Blackwell fought hard up forward for the Rangers but were held out by the efforts of Ben Stone and Tony Krop. Derek Butler and Nick Murdoch combined well to eventually score, equalising through a short corner. The play continued evenly with no team able to gain an advantage, until Paul Boston snuck a winning goal past fill-in Rangers goalie Jake McCallum, giving Mundulla a win on the day. Mundulla 3 d. Willalooka v High School Another fast paced game for the men saw Willalooka have an early start with two goals off short corners, demonstrated through classic plays. The running never let up as play moved between the teams’ control. High School were under pressure from Willalooka’s forward line, and refused to give in to their attack. The first half saw High School playing very defensively, with what attacking they did have coming up against a wall of Willalooka players. In the second half High School worked towards their attack, putting Willalooka under unexpected pressure. Willalooka continued to come back and score again and again through main attackers as well as handy fill-ins Braden and Jordan Clark. An exciting match was seen as High School failed to give up, despite the high scoring opposing team. Willalooka 8 d. High School 0 Willalooka- Best Players: Dave Prosser, Brett Day, Jordan Clark.
