DISABILITY SERVICES CENTER TESTING PROCEDURES*
(Updated July 2015)
TAKING EXAMS AT THE DISABILITY SERVICES CENTER
Administering accommodated tests when faculty cannot is an important component of our work and one of
the many ways we support students and faculty. In order to manage this administrative function and ensure
test integrity, we must strictly enforce the following guidelines.
To take a test at the DSC:







The DSC is open for accommodated testing, Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. and
Fridays 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. Students in evening and weekend courses or students, who require
additional time and have back to back classes, may need to test outside of scheduled class hours.
You must submit your request using the Test Accommodation Request Form available via the DSC
Blackboard Organization and website or you can pick one up at the DSC, 242 Luther Bonney Hall.
We recommend that you take several forms at the start of the semester so you have them available.
You can fill out forms in advance for the semester but please make sure you discuss with your
professor the importance of letting the DSC know of any changes in the exam schedule.
The form must be received no less than 4 business days before an exam. The form must be fully
completed.
Requests for final exams must be submitted 2 weeks in advance using the DSC Final Exam Request
Form. The DSC uses block scheduling during finals week with exam start times of 8:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m.
and 3:00 p.m. These scheduled blocks are not flexible.
Students, NOT FACULTY, are responsible for submission of the completed Test Accommodation Request
Form. Forms may be submitted by e-mail dsctests-usm@maine.edu.
If you have to CANCEL or CHANGE a test appointment, you should contact both your faculty and the DSC
at 780-4706. ALL changes require e-mailed approval from faculty.
LATE FORMS


Students who submit their fully completed test request form less than 4 days before the exam will be
scheduled based on space availability and exam access.
THE DSC WILL NOT HONOR SAME DAY TEST ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS.
LATE ARRIVAL TO TAKE AN EXAM

If a student arrives late to a test appointment, missed time cannot be made up without the expressed
permission of the faculty.
