Relevance of sawyer tools to ES/NFI, presentation, discussion, way forward
A short video was presented depicting the process and usage of sawyer water filter for the participants and a discussion point was forwarded whether or not include it in the ES/NFI kits, whether its relevant, useful, accessible, appropriate.
Participants indicated that there were some agencies used the kit as part of WASH intervention before and that it has some challenges such as delay in procurement and it has varied functioning from place to place depending on the soil type area.
Action plan:
IOM to take the conversation forward and discuss with suppliers regarding procedures and supply capacity
Partners with the technical capacity especially in areas of wash to test the effectiveness, capability and usability of the filter across various landscapes, soil types, topography and temperature in the country
Although some of the plastic items in the NFI package were replaced by stainless steel, some of the partners are experiencing challenges of delay in procurement as most of these item are imported. As a result cluster members suggested that there should be a discussion on arranging a long term pipeline based on lessons from other countries such as South Sudan.
Action point:
Cluster members to facilitate for Staff members from procurement units and departments of cluster member agencies to sit together and identify mechanisms for establishing ES/NFI pipeline.
