General Duties & Responsibilities
The position of Resident/Fellow Board Representative on the Board of Directors of ASLMS offers a practical non-profit, non-voting board leadership experience and opportunities to receive mentoring from established leaders. In addition, the individual will inform the board and provide a student’s perspective on issues impacting residents/fellows and their education. The ASLMS board welcomes the unique perspective residents and fellows can bring to the organization.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Serve two-year term effective at the ASLMS 2015 Annual Conference following appointment by the
Board of Directors.
Promote ASLMS to peers and colleagues around the world.
Demonstrate leadership skills and a desire to the serve the Society.
Must attend two board meetings each year at the annual conference and participate in three board teleconferences throughout the remainder of the year.
Must attend Industry Advisory Council (IAC) meeting(s) at the annual conference.
Must contribute one article per issue (four articles per year) to the Society’s official newsletter, The
Light Reader.
Adhere to Board Policies, Bylaws and Code of Ethics, and represent ASLMS in a positive and supportive manner.
Maintain confidentiality regarding discussions held at board meetings.
Avoid and/or disclose conflicts of interest between the position of Resident/Fellow Board
Representative and the incumbent’s professional or personal life.
Respect the opinions of and support actions taken by the Board of Directors.
Act in the best interest of ASLMS, above personal interests or beliefs.
Should attend annual conference educational sessions.
Qualifications
Must be an ASLMS member in good standing.
Must be enrolled in a formal residency or fellowship program for the majority of the anticipated term as
Resident/Fellow Board Member. For example, residents in three year programs qualify if they are in their first or second year of training.
Desire to maintain leadership and to be active in Society governance after the two-year term is completed.
