TOP PERFORMING SCHOOL
Whitefish Bay High School (WFBHS), a mid-sized, comprehensive high school with a 2015-16
enrollment of 958 students (grades 9-12), is consistently one of the top performing high schools
in Wisconsin and the nation as evidenced by performance data provided in this profile. In
particular, over the past three years:
 The average ACT composite score of 26.1, corresponding to a participation rate of 93%,
exceeds the state average by more than three and a half points and is the highest of all
Wisconsin public high schools.
 The average Advanced Placement exam score of 4.01 exceeds the global average of 2.93 by
nearly 1.1 points.
 SAT critical reading, math, and writing scores are 1891 combined, exceeding the national
average by nearly 400 points.
In addition, during the 2014-2015 school year, 308 students completed 551 AP exams with a
passing rate of 90% and a participation rate of 99%. Whitefish Bay was also invited to participate
in the PISA (Program for International Student Assessment) test. The results of this test
demonstrated that our students’ level of academic achievement is not only among the best in the
state and the country, but is also on par with the highest performing countries across the globe.
Our reading performance surpassed all countries, and our performance on math and science was
second only to Shanghai, China. Equally as rewarding, our school climate was among the most
highly regarded in the country. Given this exceptionally high achievement, WFBHS was
recognized as the top High School in Wisconsin and #30 in the United States by Newsweek.
RIGOROUS CURRICULUM
Whitefish Bay High School's record of outstanding academic achievement is tied directly to the
rigorous college preparatory curriculum our school provides. A summary of the core components
of the curriculum is included as part of this profile along with grade distributions for the past school
year. Challenging curriculum is essential to preparing our students for success beyond high
school, especially since 95% of them, on average, are intent on continuing their education in
college.
SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY
Whitefish Bay is a residential suburb located north of Milwaukee along Lake Michigan with a
population of approximately 14,000. The schools are a central focus of a community comprised
largely of well educated professionals and their families, and are a leading reason Whitefish Bay
made the Forbes Magazine list of 20 Best Schools for Your Housing Buck. Residents hold the
school district to high standards and enjoy a strong sense of pride in what has been a long
standing tradition of educational excellence. In addition to serving resident students, Whitefish
Bay also participates in, and is strongly supportive of, the Chapter 220 program that enables
Milwaukee public school minority students to attend suburban schools.
