Fleetwood High School Job Description Job Title: Attendance Improvement Officer Salary: Grade 6, £19,742 - £22,937 pro rata Hours: Full time, Term Time only plus 5 days Responsible to: Head teacher/ Assistant Head teacher At the direction of the Head teacher / Assistant Head teacher support students with attendance and truancy issues. To work pro-actively as a member of the Attendance Team to provide a range of services but primarily to help raise whole school attendance, reduce levels of persistent absence and support students in order to improve individual attendance. Make home visits to families to ascertain the reason for student’s not attending school and giving appropriate help and advice. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Key Roles To manage individual cases causing concern regarding school attendance, following up individual cases by means of correspondence, interview, home visits and other appropriate measures. Provide accurate case work, monitoring, documenting and reviewing information in a clear, coherent and progressive manner. Prepare reports on attendance ensuring maintenance of accurate and factual records which could be used in evidence in legal interventions. To undertake court action in relation to poor punctuality where pupils have frequent unauthorised lates. Work in partnership with external agencies to support attendance improvement. Work in partnership with Heads of Year and Assistant Heads of Year with regards to improving attendance and maintain attendance through our 3 tier approach. Provide regular updates to pastoral staff and participate in weekly attendance meetings, reviewing student attendance with targets and strategies for improvement. Apply the appropriate Intervention Strategies in relation to whole School Attendance Policy. Produce and interpret statistical data relating to attendance patterns of groups within the school. Work alongside the pastoral staff and communicate effectively on key areas such as punctuality, welfare and student support To conduct regular truancy sweeps around the school at key times. Keep accurate and up-to-date records of contact with parents/carers, contact with colleagues from other agencies, and any actions taken regarding students. Assist with the tracking and monitoring of registers, promoting the necessity of accurately completed registers Promote good attendance with staff and students with half termly attendance weeks. Assist with the inputting of registers and first day response to absence Provide advice and support for students returning to school after a long period of absence. Participate in the development of the school reward system in relation to attendance. To have a comprehensive understanding of safeguarding children and be able to provide advice for school staff and others in this area. To identify students with the highest levels of poor attendance and difficulties and to assist in the completion of CAF processes and referrals to integrated assessment and support teams. Report on progress made and further policy changes to the Senior Leadership Team and the Governing Body. To adhere to the lone working policy adopted by the school from Lancashire County Council.
