Franklin Delano Roosevelt was born on January 30, 1882 in Hyde Park, NY
located in the northeast region of the United States. He married Anna
Eleanor Roosevelt and they raised 5 children.
Roosevelt was the first president to talk to Americans over the radio and
address the nation on television.
Franklin Roosevelt led the country out of the Great Depression.
In 1932, Roosevelt promised a New Deal for Americans which included help
for farmers and better working conditions for most Americans. He
organized the Tennessee Valley Authority to build dams and make power.
Roosevelt also created the Social Security System which provides an income
for retired Americans.
FDR came from a wealthy family.

After beginning a political career, Roosevelt was struck with polio. Within
2 days, he couldn't walk and was confined to a wheel chair.

 FDR died of a stroke April 12, 1945 in Warm Springs, GA at the age of
63, shortly into his 4th term. One month later, the Allies won the war in
Europe.
 Roosevelt is the only president to serve more than 2 terms. He was
elected 4 times.



Eleanor was born in New York City which
is in the Northeast region of the United
States.
Eleanor went to school in England where
a teacher told her she was smart and a
good leader. This helped Eleanor change
her life.
Franklin D. Roosevelt married Eleanor.
When he became President, she served
as the First Lady of the United States.
As First Lady, Eleanor gave speeches on
the radio, gave press conferences, and
wrote a newspaper column.
After her husband died, Eleanor was appointed by both President Harry
Truman and President John F. Kennedy to be a delegate to the United
Nations.
With the United Nations, Eleanor worked for nuclear disarmament and
human rights.
Eleanor helped write the Declaration of Human Rights which still helps
many people world wide today.
