Award badges for behaviors/skills not specifically tied to grades Award badges for behaviors/activities students are not intrinsically motivated to engage in Award badges for class components that are already extrinsically motivated o Students report that these badges are acknowledging their hard work and appreciate the recognition Beware the overjustification effect Create Badges Option 1: Create your own badges Must be png Must not exceed 256 kb Must be at least 90 x 90 Option 2: Find badges online 1. 2. 3. In "Course Administration" select badges 2. Choose "Add a new badge" 1. 2. 3. Provide the name of the badge Provide a description of the badge Save changes 3. Select Criteria Tab o Select Criteria for earning the badge (manual issue, course completion (automatic), activity completion (automatic) 4. Select Message Tab o If desired, adapt the message sent to students notifying them they have earned a badge. 5. Enable Access (making sure everything is as it should be because it can't be changed as soon someone earns the badge) o o When manually issuing badge - select students who will be given the badge. Make sure you are giving the right students the right badge. You can NOT revoke a badge that has been awarded
