6th Week
Reading Comprehension
-Context Clues-The words and phrases of information found around the
word that help you know the meaning.
-Homograph – 1 word that has more than 1 meaning.
Writing
Complete Sentences- A sentence is a complete thought with a
subject and predicate. Every sentence must start with a
capital and end with punctuation.
Word Work

Subject-the who or what of the sentence

Predicate-what id in the middle
Identifying vowel team syllables
Reviewing open, closed, bossy R, and vowel consonant E syllables.
Open Syllables- nothing comes after the vowel, so vowel makes the long
sound ( hu as in human)
Closed Syllables-vowel is closed by a consonant, so vowel makes the
short sound (man as in human)
Vowel Consonant E-vowel followed by a consonant and then the silent E
(make as in remake)
Bossy R-vowel followed by an R
This week we will begin identifying vowel teams in each syllab.

-Point of View-Who is telling the story
-Narrator – someone else not involved in the story telling the characters

-Character- a person, animal, or thing telling the story from their point of
view
-Speaker-a character that is talking in the story

Picture Book- taking the important events from our personal narrative and
putting them into a picture book
1. Plot-looking for the main events to be sequenced without time lapses
2. Characters-at least 2 character traits shown in story.
