2015-2016 Scholarship Application Form
DEADLINE – Monday, February 1, 2016
 The Scholarship Committee will make their final selections no later than March 15, 2016. Scholarship
recipients will be notified by email. Non-recipients will not be contacted.
 All scholarships will be administered by the Office of Student Financial Aid Services. If you are a needbased financial aid recipient (loans, grants, work-study employment) your financial aid package may
be revised as a result of this award. If no adjustment is necessary and your fee bill is paid in full, you
may be entitled to a refund. If you have questions about how a scholarship could affect your financial
aid package, please call (860) 486-2819.
Instructions
1. On Page 2, select the scholarship awards for which you are applying.
2. Type your responses to all items in the form on the following pages.
3. Create an unofficial copy of your University of Connecticut transcript as a PDF. This transcript must
include your Fall 2015 grades. Incoming freshmen do not need to submit a transcript.
To create the PDF of the unofficial transcript:
 Access unofficial transcript via https://student.studentadmin.uconn.edu> Main Menu> Self
Service> Student Center> My Academics> View My Unofficial Transcript
 Click “Print This Page” link
 Select Adobe PDF option from Printer Name drop-down menu> click OK> save.
4. Submit the completed form and unofficial transcript as attachments via email to
uconnpolisci@gmail.com no later than Monday, February 1, 2016. Paper applications will not be
considered.
5. You must fill out a separate application for each scholarship for which you are applying.
Scholarship Awards
Please select the awards for which you are applying.
Augusta H. Gerberich Scholarship: Given annually to a junior or senior majoring in political science whose
special field of interest is international relations. Preference is given to female students. The award is based on
high levels of scholastic aptitude and scholastic success, demonstration of financial need, and promise of
leadership.
Legal Studies Scholarship : Given annually to two undergraduate students pursuing a degree in political
science, with preference to seniors, in recognition of scholarly achievement , with priority given to students who
plan to enter law school after graduation.
I. Ridgway Davis Pre-Law Fellowship: Given annually to an undergraduate with an outstanding academic
record who has been accepted for entry to law school. (Proof of law school acceptance must be provided by
4/15/16. Funds will be awarded once proof of acceptance is received.)
Irving Smirnoff Scholarship: Given annually to undergraduate juniors and/or seniors pursuing a degree in
political science, who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement.
Jaime B. Cheshire '99 Endowed Internship Award: Given annually to an undergraduate pursuing a degree in
political science and who has been accepted to and is participating in the Political Science Internship Program.
Everett Ladd Fellowship in American Politics: Given annually to University students enrolled in the College of
Liberal Arts and Sciences, who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement.
John G. Hill, Jr. and John G. Hill, III/Political Science Excellence Award: Given to upper division students,
usually seniors, who have achieved outstanding academic records, or who otherwise merit special recognition.
Howard L. Reiter Senior Award for Graduate Study in Political Science: Given annually to an undergraduate
senior pursuing a degree in political science and who intends to study Political Science or International Relations at
the graduate level.
Roy H and Hilda M. Merolli Scholarship in Political Science: Given to undergraduate students pursuing a
degree in political science with demonstrated academic achievement and financial need.
Fannie Dixon Welch Scholarship: Given annually to a junior or senior female political science major with a
special interest in international relations and public policy who is a Democrat, registered in Connecticut. This
scholarship is awarded separately by the Connecticut Federation of Democratic Women. The recipient of this
award will be contacted directly by the CFDW (not UConn).
