Scholarship Application Criteria and Procedures
Eligibility criteria are:




Must have a declared major or minor in Women’s Studies. This includes undergraduate students
enrolled full-time or part-time.
Financial need will be a major consideration in awarding the scholarship.
Students are eligible until their final semester of study.
Students may receive this award more than once, but must re-apply each year to be considered.
To be considered for the Barbara Murphy Brooks Women’s Studies Scholarship, a student must
submit the following application materials:

Statement of Commitment to Women’s Leadership. Submit two typed pages which draw on
your personal, academic, and/or professional experiences. The Statement of Commitment
should address: 1) Why you think you are a good fit for this scholarship, and 2) What you have done in your
personal, academic, work-related, and/or social life related to women’s issues (e.g., experiences involving
issues related to women, projects or recognized programs you may have worked on or through;
personal experiences with programs focused on reproductive rights, policy change, social justice,
women’s history, global issues or ecofeminism; family life or workplace experiences, or
confronting intersections of race, class, gender, and/or sexuality).
Personal Financial Statement Form.
Transcript. Submit a current transcript reflecting all course work completed. Transcript can be
printed from Goldlink.
o Include a paragraph that highlights your academic strengths and limitations.
o Explain all grades below a C.
Resume.
Letters of Recommendation. Submit two letters of recommendation, with at least one letter
from a present or former professor.
Procedures

Application materials must be completed and submitted by March 14 to be considered for the
following academic year. Send application to Women’s Studies Program, PO Box 70262, Johnson
