POSITION DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Mechanical Engineer II DATE: 9/25/14 FLSA: EXEMPT APPLICABLE EXEMPTION(S): NON EXEMPT Professional SOFTWARE, EXEMPT DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: Engineering/Product Development REPORTS TO: Director, Engineering/Product Development LOCATION: Olympus Respiratory America d/b/a Spiration, Inc. in Redmond, WA PURPOSE/SUMMARY Members of our mechanical engineering team are responsible for designing innovative medical devices, products and tools to support the Company’s product lines. Mechanical engineers design and build test samples, test fixtures and prototypes, conduct independent engineering analysis, and interface regularly across all functions at the Company. PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Prototypes new concepts, originates and updates drawings, work instructions, protocols and reports. Utilizes engineering tools, such as 3D modelling, statistical software and FEA. Conducts engineering testing and independent engineering analysis (e.g. tolerance stack) on systems. Selects and leads technical contact with outside suppliers for custom components. Works collaboratively across all functions of the Company to resolve issues, communicate changes, and to ensure the highest quality product is developed for our customers. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Graduate degree a plus. EXPERIENCE 3+ years experience required. Previous experience working in a medical device field or other regulated industry required. SKILLS, ABILITIES, KNOWLEDGE In-depth understanding of engineering and production requirements, preferably related to medical device design. ISO certification and FDA compliance experience desired. Hands on experience with machining, prototyping, and fabrication methods. Demonstrable experience specifying, designing, analyzing, simulating, prototyping, building, testing, and documenting. Current expertise in the use of CAD software required, SolidWorks experience preferred. Advanced Microsoft software skills including sophisticated Word and Excel skills a must. Powerpoint, Visio, database and statistical analysis software experience optimal. Sophisticated written and verbal communication skills required.
