Jesus the 'Star'! (The 10 S's of Christmas)
"Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are.
Up above the world so high,
Like a diamond in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!
Most of us are familiar with that little children's rhyme. My two year-old certainly loves singing
it at the present. Most of us probably are not familiar with the rest of the rhyme.
"In the dark blue sky so deep,
Through my curtains often peep,
For you never close your eyes,
Til the morning sun does rise,
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are!"
Most of us adults still 'wonder' at the stars, don't we?
For thousands of years, people have been pulling back the curtains to peep at the stars ... to
watch them twinkle, to watch them move, to watch them and wonder.
And what a 'wonder' they are.
At first glance, stars seem insignificant. Tiny. Way out of reach from our world. Yet, as our
glance turns to a gaze, stars become much more significant. They are indeed massive. Great
balls of fire and energy that put out an amazing amount of heat and light. And, it is only
because of their great size and energy that we can see them at all on our tiny, little world.
Stars are no small matter, no insignificant thing.
They are big. They are beautiful. They are bright, and for thousands of years they have
entertained us, guided us, and helped us track time.
As we continue our Merry Christmas Bible Study ...
The 10 S's Names of Jesus in the Old Testament.
We turn our attention to the Star of the Bible.
According to the Bible ...
Jesus is the Christmas 'Star'! He is the Star that shines until the Sun rises.

Most of us are familiar with another song that's sung throughout this season.
"We three kings of Orient are ,
Bearing gifts we traverse afar.
Field and fountain, moor and mountain,
Following yonder star.
O star of wonder, star of night,
Star with royal beauty bright,
Westward leading, still proceeding,
Guide us to thy perfect Light."
This song comes from the Christmas story found in the New Testament Gospel of Matthew ...
approximately two years after Jesus was born.
Matthew 2:1-2...9-11
"Now after JESUS was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king,
behold, wise men from the East came to Jerusalem, saying,
'Where is He who has been born King of the Jews?
For we have seen His STAR in the East and have come to worship Him' ...
and behold, the Star which they had seen in the East went before them,
till it came and stood over where the young Child was.
When they saw the Star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy.
And when they had come into the house,
they saw the young Child with Mary His mother,
and fell down and worshiped Him.
And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him:
gold, frankincense, and myrrh."
But, the Story of the Star began long before Jesus' birth.
The Wise Men from the East had 'seen' His Star before it ever appeared on the horizon. They
had 'seen' the Star 'shining' on the pages of the Old Testament before it ever shone in the skies
above.
Way back in the Book of Numbers, a prophet named Balaam was 'seeing stars' ... actually, he
found himself seeing a vision from God about A STAR. He recorded the vision with these words:
Numbers 24:16-17,19
"The utterance of him who hears the words of God,
and has the knowledge of the Most High,
who sees the vision of the Almighty, with eyes wide open:
'I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near;
a STAR shall come out of Jacob; a Scepter shall rise out of Israel ...
Out of Jacob One shall have dominion ..."

God told Balaam thousands of years ago that a 'Star' would shine. A Star out of Jacob (Judea,
Bethlehem).
So, it was no surprise to the Wise Men to see a BRIGHT NEW STAR shining in the East on that
first Christmas morn'. They knew exactly what it meant. They knew the reason it shone with
'royal beauty' and 'perfect light'.
That STAR foretold in Numbers had entertained their mind for years.
For years, they had peeped from behind the curtains looking for that distant 'Star'. And now,
the time had arrived. The 'Star of Wonder' shined ... and guided them on their way, right to
place where Jesus lay.
Jesus is that Bright and Morning 'Star'.
God promised long ago that He would send a Star ... a Star to shine on us ... a Star to show us
the way ... and a Star to signal God's time on earth. It is this 'Star' that led the Wise Men to Him,
and it is this same 'Star' that will lead us to Him if we too are wise.
Come and worship the 'Star'!
You no longer have to wonder ... or even wander in the 'night'.
Revelation 22:16
"I, JESUS, have sent My angel to testify to you these things in the churches. I am the Root and
the Offspring of David, the Bright and Morning Star."
Jesus is here to shine in the deep blue dark of night until the Sun rises.
A Star is for night, and the Sun is for day.
Jesus the 'Star'!
and one day, perhaps one day soon ... He will be the 'Sun'.
