News brewed on 22 // 01 // 16 ALPHA DOG: BREWDOG USA RECRUITS JASON DAVIS AS VP OF SALES, AS BREWERY BUILD TAKES SHAPE. - BrewDog recruits former Sierra Nevada manager to head up Ohio brewery - The US brewery is due to launch in August 2016, with the first walls being raised this week - Davis comes with 25 years in the beer industry, and shares his opinions on the rise of the craft sector in the US Irreverent brewery, BrewDog, today announced the appointment of new Vice President of Sales, Jason Davis, who will be heading up the Ohio brewery operation set to officially open in August 2016. Jason makes his debut at BrewDog’s 100,000 sq ft brewery in Columbus, armed with 25 years’ industry experience brewing up the craft expertise to launch the next phase of the brewery’s craft beer revolution. Davis, formerly Midwest Regional Manager at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, was drawn to the role because of the importance BrewDog places on the quality of the product over everything else. As a fervent champion of craft beer, Jason took time to call out Sierra Nevada, the Columbus Brewing Company and Country Boy Brewing as creators of the region’s most impressive brew successes to date. BrewDog, co-founder James Watt, comments: “We’re psyched to bring Jason on board to launch BrewDog USA. He’s crazy evangelical and knowledgeable about beer, shares our passion and determination to take the craft beer revolution stratospheric, and most importantly, he agrees nothing – not expense, not the law, not physics – should stand in the way of making epic beer. The whole ethos of BrewDog is about championing independent breweries in our bars and bottle shops, creating awesome collaborations with small brewers, and making sure the world has a next-level selection of incredible beers to explore.” BrewDog USA’s North American HQ will be the main site for all BrewDog USA beer production, as well as boasting a restaurant, taproom, and visitor centre. This American dream would not have been possible without the army of BrewDog Equity Punks – who will all own a stake in BrewDog USA. These passionate beer fans have invested a total of £13m since the fourth round of Equity for Punks launched in April 2015. Equity for Punks IV is open until 21 st April 2016, and separate Equity for Punks USA is set to launch in the States this year too. In its first year the brewery will produce over 85,200 barrels, ramping up in years two and three to reach 852,000 barrels. This will not only satisfy the incredible thirst for quality craft beer in the US, but includes scope to export to neighbouring nations, which are harder to serve from BrewDog’s main brewery in Ellon, Aberdeenshire. The new brewery will create around 124 jobs for the local area. Commenting on the craft beer scene in the US, Jason Davis says: “Craft is fuelling growth in US beer sales. Growth in craft beer is not being driven by discounted prices; rather it is a consumer-driven shift to better beer. Some experts are estimating that craft will have a 20% share of the US beer industry by 2020 and I think that number is very realistic.” “I truly appreciate balanced beers. Something that is a little hop forward, but not so much as to dominate the experience. A west coast style IPA with some citrus notes, about 40 IBU, 5.5-6% ABV and utilising Cascade, Columbus and Centennial hops.” Jason’s own favourite BrewDog beer is the bountiful hop character of Punk IPA. The launch of a BrewDog brewery in USA marks a huge step for the brewery, which has conquered the UK and European craft beer market with a host of hoppy headliners led by Punk IPA, Five AM Red Ale, Dead Pony Club, Jackhammer and This.Is.Lager. In the last couple of years BrewDog has opened craft beer bars in places as far flung as São Paulo, Rome and Berlin, as well as UK venues including Soho, Aberdeen, Leeds, and Brighton. The brewery in Columbus will create an estimated 124 jobs, and though the majority of business will be concentrated on a 250-mile radius in Columbus, Ohio, Jason expects to achieve a strong presence and acceptance throughout the entire US. More information on BrewDog can be found at brewdog.com --- ENDS --What is BrewDog? Since 2007 BrewDog has been on a mission to make other people as passionate about great craft beer as we are. From the Headliner series, which includes bold, uncompromising pack leaders like the flagship Punk IPA, to the Amplified range (beer, but turned up to 11), BrewDog creates beer that blows people’s minds and has kick-started a revolution. Cofounders James Watt and Martin Dickie shook up the business world in 2010 with the launch of pioneering crowdfunding scheme Equity for Punks, an initiative that has seen the company raise £20m over four rounds, taking more money through crowdfunding than any other on record. The funds, and the army of punk shareholders (35,000 and rising) enabled the Scottish craft brewery to scale up without selling out. With over 40 global bar launches, export into 55 countries, and a brand new brewery in Ohio opening in August 2016, BrewDog continues to take the craft beer revolution stratospheric, whilst continuing to push the boundaries, invest in people, put the beer first, and champion other small breweries in its venues.
