Nexium Control Product Factsheet Date of preparation: 16th February 2015 NEXIUM CONTROL® – PRODUCT FACTSHEET Life without heartburn One in three people in the UK experience heartburn symptoms and one in six experience frequent heartburn1, which occurs two times per week or more.2 Those unfortunate enough to suffer from frequent heartburn can often feel limited in their food and drink choices,3 suffer from sleep disruption4 and feel generally unwell. However, frequent heartburn sufferers can now buy Nexium Control® for 24-hour protection from heartburn. Traditional heartburn treatments such as antacids are designed to give temporary relief from the pain of heartburn. They work reactively by neutralising the acid5 but don’t tackle acid production. They need to be taken repeatedly to maintain their effect. Nexium Control® is different. As a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), Nexium Control® targets heartburn at its source by blocking acid production in the stomach. Just one tablet a day can provide 24-hour protection from frequent heartburn.6 About frequent heartburn Heartburn is a painful condition caused by stomach acid rising up into the food pipe (oesophagus), touching its unprotected lining.3 Everyone experiences heartburn differently, but the most common symptom is burning pain under the breastbone.3 Some people experience a nasty taste or fluid in the back of the throat.3 Frequent heartburn is often defined as that which occurs twice a week or more.2 Comparison of heartburn treatments: More traditional heartburn treatments fall short of providing the 24-hour symptom relief that frequent sufferers need. It is a treatment that blocks the proton pumps which are responsible for secreting acid into the stomach, thereby protecting you from heartburn.6 By treating the source of acid production rather than just the symptoms, one Nexium Control® tablet can give continuous 24-hour protection against heartburn.6 Nexium Control® can be taken for up to 14 consecutive days and is available in 7 or 14 tablet packs. With just one Nexium Control® tablet per day 8 out of 10 frequent heartburn sufferers saw a meaningful improvement in their symptoms within one week6. Providing day-long protection against heartburn, users can feel confident and reassured that their food choices or lifestyle will not be impacted by heartburn.
