World Languages:
We are a student run organization providing additional exposure to languages spoken within the
community of Huntley High School. The languages of French, Spanish and Chinese will be an essential
part of this organization with additional languages welcomed as the linguistic landscape of HHS
provides. World Languages provides 4 larger events per year that feature the languages of HHS. In
addition to these 4 larger combined events, students speaking/studying languages besides English are
encouraged to create fun monthly meetings that allow for further exploration of language and delve into
elements of culture such as song & art that otherwise do not fit into the classroom academic program.
World Languages runs using a committee formation. The teacher sponsor has a committee of student
leaders representing each language. The student committee would meet approximately once a month
to plan larger events held 4 times per year (Fall Activities, Winter Festivals/New Year, Spring
Celebrations/Mardi Gras, Summer/Goodbye). These larger celebrations would be advertised school
wide and would be open to all students of any language. On a smaller scale, each month would have a
meeting of individual language groups that would involve student driven activities focused around a
student created theme. This way, each language group still exists as a “club” but there is a larger
connection among the languages of Huntley High School. Should there be additional teachers willing to
help out with any of the language groups the stipend can be divided among them. Should there not be
any students interested in a particular language group then that group would remain dormant that year.
