JOB SUMMARY
Arden Commissioning Support (ACS) provides commissioning support to Clinical
Commissioning Groups (CCGs) and other customers to ensure that a high quality service is
provided to NHS patients. The Business Intelligence Unit within ACS is responsible for
delivering first class business intelligence services and products to support commissioning
and contracting. These services include effective contract modelling, analysis to identify
areas for improvement, contract monitoring and performance analysis. This is delivered to
customers through a series of tools and products as well as through the provision of planned
and ad hoc analytical support.
The Associate for Business Intelligence will be responsible for ensuring the effective delivery
of agreed products and services to customers. This includes ensuring that robust
SLAs/contracts are in place with customers, that services/products are delivered to
time/specification and that services are delivered efficiently to maximise value for money for
customers. The post holder will also be responsible for maintaining and expanding the
current customer base through the development of new products and services.
Arden Commissioning Support is dedicated to supporting improvements in the quality of the
NHS. Consequently, patients are at the heart of everything that we do. The post holder will
need to ensure that the services and products provided to customers support them in
improving the quality and value for money of services provided to their patients.
Main responsibilities & duties:
Delivery of Core Business Intelligence Services

Ensure that routine reports are delivered to specification and on time
Ensure that the ACS /Ventris Business Intelligence System, and other agreed BI
tools which ACS provides to customers, are available and supported in accordance
with customer SLAs/Contracts
Ensure that central returns are submitted to the Local Area Team and the NHS
Commissioning Board in accordance with the terms of SLAs/Contracts with
customers
Ensure that ad hoc analytical support is provided to customers to the standard and
volume agreed in the SLAs/Contracts
Provide contract modelling services and advice to ensure that the contracts agreed
between CCGs and service providers represent value for money and maximise
quality of services for patients
Provide contract monitoring to ensure that the quality and cost of services provided to
CCGs by service providers is as agreed in the contracts. This includes providing
routine reporting on contract performance
Provide business intelligence to support the development of Quality, Innovation,
Productivity and Prevention (QIPP) schemes
Provide proactive business intelligence to CCGs, identifying areas where NHS
services could be improved or value for money could be improved
Provide internal business intelligence to ACS to ensure that service provided by the
ACS are high quality and meeting customer need
Use “cutting edge” BI and statistical techniques to ensure that the analysis provided
is accurate, meaningful and leads to demonstrable improvements in services for
patients
Monitor the performance of the Business Intelligence Unit to ensure that the work
undertaken is leading to customer satisfaction as well as improvements in the quality
of services provided to patients
Development of Enhanced Business Intelligence Services

Develop “cutting edge” Business Intelligence services and products to support
customers in delivering word class commissioning for their patients.
Ensure that future business intelligence developments add value to existing
customers and support the attraction of new customers to Arden Commissioning
Support
Develop new BI products and services in collaboration with customers to ensure that
the products/services meet the customer’s needs
Liaise effectively with potential partners such as Local Authorities (LAs) and Local
Area Teams (LATs) to develop business intelligence across the complete care
pathway
Develop business intelligence services and products for future customers such as
Local Authorities (Public Health and Social Care), Local Area Teams, and healthcare
service providers

Develop Intelligent analysis, utilising the most up to date techniques and systems to
provide insight and make recommendations on actions to improve quality and value
for money for customers and patients
Customer Relationship

Manage and monitor customer satisfaction with Business Intelligence products and
services
Manage customer expectations and ensure that services/products are delivered as
specified within customer contracts/SLAs
Liaise effectively with customers to demonstrate the range of products and services
that are available
Liaise with customers to ensure that new products and services meet the needs of
existing and future customers
Ensure that customers are aware of the high quality of services provided and the
benefits that these services/products provide
Team Management and Leadership

Ensure efficient processes and procedures are in place to deliver routine reporting,
ad hoc support and project based Business Intelligence to customers
Ensure that the team structure, skills and operating model meet the needs of existing
and future customers. This includes achieving economies of scale by providing
services at scale, but also ensuring a local analytical presence for every customer
Manage the budget of the team to ensure that income exceeds expenditure and
funding is available for investing in innovation and the development of new services
and products
Continually develop the skills within the team through effective transfer of skills and
training
Ensure that objectives are set and personal development plans are agreed with the
team
Create a positive, customer and patient focussed culture within the team and
motivate the team to excel in everything that they do
Management of Customer SLAs

Ensure that contracts/SLAs with both internal and external customers are detailed
and explicit to avoid disagreements on the quality and volume of products/services
provided.
Ensure that enough resource exists to deliver products and services agreed within
the contracts/SLAs
Ensure that income exceeds expenditure for products and services delivered by
Arden Commissioning Support Business Intelligence.
Manage external suppliers

Specify, negotiate and agree SLAs/Contracts for the provision of relevant services
from 3rd party suppliers. This includes the procurement of Data Management and
Integration Services (DMIC)

Identify the need and benefit of sub-contracting elements of the business intelligence
offering and deliver the procurement of these services from beginning to end
Ensure that SLAs/Contracts with 3rd party suppliers are robust and contain adequate
KPIs to ensure the effective delivery of services
Monitor and manage SLAs/Contracts with external suppliers to ensure that KPIs are
being met and services are being delivered as specified
Attract New Business

Identify new business opportunities within the Business Intelligence health field
Market existing products and services to Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) to
increase Arden Commissioning Supports market share
Identify new customer types, such as the Local Area Teams, Local Authorities, NHS
Trusts and the Commissioning Board
Develop new products and enhance existing BI products/services to attract new
business from new customers
Lead on the marketing of Arden Commissioning Support Business Intelligence
services/products to raise awareness of the quality of BI services and attract new
business
Ensure that Arden Commissioning Support Business Intelligence Team has enough
revenue to reinvest in development to attract new business
