Group Crisis Intervention
Designed to present the core elements of a comprehensive, systematic and multi-component
crisis intervention curriculum, the Group Crisis Intervention course will prepare participants to
understand a wide range of crisis intervention services. Fundamentals of Critical Incident Stress
Management (CISM) will be outlined and participants will leave with the knowledge and tools to
provide several group crisis interventions, specifically demobilizations, defusings and the
Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). The need for appropriate follow-up services and
referrals when necessary will also be discussed.
This course is designed for anyone in the fields of Business & Industry Crisis Intervention,
Disaster Response, Education, Emergency Services, Employee Assistance, Healthcare, Homeland
Security, Mental Health, Military, Spiritual Care, and Traumatic Stress.

BIOGRAPHY
Phil is Director and co-founder of Mission Support Incorporated.
Mission Support was established in Canberra in early 2013 to meet an identified nationwide need for
training, development and support in the fields of Crisis Intervention and Chaplaincy.
Since moving to Australia in 2001 Phil has gained significant training and expertise in the areas of
crisis intervention and chaplaincy, including a recent contract to establish, train and manage a crisis
response chaplaincy program for a major international ministry organisation.

Diplomate of the American Association of Experts in Traumatic Stress
Board Certified Crisis Chaplain
Ministry Credential, Australian Christian Churches
Instructor in six Critical Incident Stress Management courses
Within Australia Phil is registered with several state and national chaplaincy bodies. He has put his
experience into practice at numerous national and international disaster response deployments
including:
VIC fires, QLD floods/storms, Christchurch Earthquake, various US tornado’s and hurricanes
Phil is passionate about equipping people with skills that will empower and encourage them to come
alongside others in crisis in an appropriate way.
Since 2005 Phil has been volunteer Chaplain to the ACT State Emergency Service, a role that he is
proud to hold.
Phil lives in Canberra with his wife of 28 years, Lyndsey – a Registered Nurse and volunteer chaplain and 2 adult children who follow in their parent’s footsteps as ambulance officer and RN.

CISM Course Costs : $ 225
Includes contribution to presenters fee; Manual and completion certificate; morning tea,
lunch, afternoon tea Monday, Tuesday, and dinner Monday
Accommodation & Breakfast can be provided at Grafton Hall (single room, shared
bathrooms) for $ 35 per night (including Sunday 23rd). Dinner available Tuesday at an
extra cost of $ 15 per person.
