Goodbye……and hello
Since our last newsletter there have been some
changes at the Surgery. Sue Bell, our Practice
Manager retired last October; Annalisa Jarvis has
taken over Sue’s role. Sister Di Clarfelt, our
Senior Practice Nurse is reducing her hours,
although she is still doing two days a week in her
specialist areas.
wasted appointments every month for both GPs
and Nurses. This causes frustration for both
patients and staff and means that more
appointments could have been available. If you
have an appointment that you can’t attend, please
let the surgery know so that it can be offered to
someone else. We all know how annoying it is
when we can’t book an appointment for the time
and doctor that we would like. If we can reduce
the number of missed appointments, it will help to
make more appointments available. The practice
has a text message reminder service, so please
make sure that you have provided your mobile
number – this should mean that you will receive an
appointment reminder text, and if you no longer
need the appointment you would be able to ring
Reception to cancel it. There will also be a review
of our policy of sending letters to those patients
who regularly fail to cancel unwanted
appointments.
We have two F2s (Foundation Year 2 Doctors) –
Dr Hooda and Dr Hoban. They have just left us
and from 1 April we will be welcoming Dr Fiona
Askew and Dr Rebecca Packman.. F2s are doctors
in their second year of post qualification training,
and they will be with us for 4 months. We also
have a GP Registrar in the team – Dr Walia. Dr
Walia is a qualified doctor in her final year of GP
training and with us until September.
In the Reception team, Jean left in February, and
Lizzie joined us then. Amy and Chelsea joined the
team last summer.
Chaperones
We also say goodbye to John and Margaret
Crabtree who have retired from the Patient
Participation Group. They were founder members
and made a huge contribution. We are sad to see
them go and want to thank them for their
involvement and contributions over many years.
We have recently updated our Chaperone policy.
There are notices about this in the waiting area and
in each treatment room. Patients who would like a
chaperone for their appointment are encouraged to
ask at the time of booking their appointment
wherever possible. Practice staff are aware of this
policy. Formal chaperones undergo training and
understand their role and responsibilities and are
competent to perform that role. Please ask if you
would like a chaperone with you for your
appointment.
Missed appointments
We have recently had a look at appointments that
are lost because the patient does not attend, but
fails to contact the Practice to cancel the
appointment. On average there are 100 of these
Congratulations

We’re very proud to say that Dr Marilyn Plant was
awarded an MBE in The Queen’s Birthday
Honours last year for her services to General
Practice. Here she is receiving it on 31.1.15:
pharmacist who will dispense them as necessary.
The patient’s GP will then see the patient at the end
of 6 or 12 months for a medication review. You
may ask your doctor to have your prescriptions in
paper or electronic form and whether they consider
that your medication needs are suited to being
placed on the repeat dispensing program.
Online access
If you would like to be able to have online access
to your details at the surgery, please ask at
Reception. You will be given a unique log-in code
which will enable you to book appointments, order
repeat prescriptions and look at some parts of your
medical records: regular medications, adverse drug
reactions and allergies. In future it is planned to
expand this service. Reception staff will be happy
to give you the information to do this – it is not
available by email, but only in person at the
surgery.
Telephone Consultations
We are currently reviewing our telephone
consultation trial. Once we have the results we will
feedback to you … watch this space!
Walk-in Surgery
We would respectfully remind you that this
appointment system is designed to help our patients
manage their medical needs, rather than routine
matters. We’ve recently reviewed the waiting
times: 90% of patients are usually seen within 1
hour of booking in. Of course there are always
days that are busier than others. Please remember
that you should present only one problem to the
doctor you are seeing. If you have other problems,
please book an appointment.
Just a reminder that the walk-in operates Monday
to Friday 9.00 – 10.30am. Even if you arrive
earlier, you may not be seen before 9.00am and so
may wait longer. Please remember that there will
be some patients in the waiting area who have
booked appointments. They may have arrived after
you, but be seen before you because they have an
appointment. You may be seen by one of the junior
doctors (F2s) but always have your case reviewed
by a senior doctor after the morning’s session.
Friends and Family Test
This is an important way in which you can provide
feedback on the care and treatment you receive at
the surgery and so help to improve services. It’s a
simple question which asks whether you would
recommend the Practice to your friends and family.
Answering this question is voluntary, your details
will not be passed on to anyone else and your
answer will not be traced back to you. It’s just a
way to get valuable feedback information for the
practice and to identify possible improvements. If
you would like to take part after your consultation,
there are cards and a box in which to post them in
the waiting area, or go to:

Travel Advice
If you are planning your holidays and need travel
advice or immunisations you will need to make an
appointment with one of the Practice Nurses.
Immunisations normally need some time to take
effect and sometimes more than one dose is
needed, so please remember to make sure you
arrange your appointment for 6 weeks before you
travel.
Repeat Prescriptions
Patients who are on stable medication and who
should (under normal circumstances) only require
six monthly or annual monitoring, may be issued
with a batch of 6 or 12 monthly prescriptions.
These prescriptions may be in paper or electronic
form and should be given to the patient’s regular
