TMCLCS is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization funded by United Way of Central West Virginia, The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation, FEMA, the West Virginia Bureau of Senior Services, churches, businesses, and caring individuals. One of the volunteers returned with a handwritten note. This is why we do what we do . . . “I want to thank everyone that has helped my family this year. My husband was laid off 2 years ago and had to go back to school. He is studying to be a nurse now. We really from the bottom of our hearts appreciate the help. Our 3 children will be happy to have a nice Christmas dinner together tomorrow. We hope to make a donation after we get back on our feet. God bless you and Merry Christmas!” We thank our community for coming together in support of the Christmas Basket Program and the ongoing need for food assistance. Schools, churches, businesses, civic organizations, and residents collected food, socks, & toys, made cash donations, and provided sponsorships. Andrew Jackson Middle School Girl Scout Council 1847 Cross Lanes Elementary School Old English Village Fairview United Methodist Church Point Harmony Elementary School Fruth Pharmacy Woman’s Club of Cross Lanes Volunteers moved food, packed boxes, wrapped gifts, and made deliveries. Best wishes for a happy, healthy 2014! We want to support and encourage the community to lead a healthy lifestyle. You are invited to participate in the new Healthy Cross Lanes initiative. A group of concerned community leaders and citizens have come together to identify and promote healthy events, activities, and programs. Healthy Cross Lanes promotes HEALTHY FOOD – FITNESS – PSYCHOLOGICAL & EMOTIONAL WELLBEING – SPIRITUAL GROWTH – SAFETY – DENTAL & MEDICAL CARE – SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION – EDUCATION - EMPLOYMENT. January events include Free Zumba at the YMCA on Sundays, Tobacco Cessation Classes, Free Health Screening, an Identity Theft Workshop, and much more. Heavenly Snacks for Backpacks is a signature project of the Cross Lanes United Methodist Church Youth Group. Every Wednesday evening they pack 160 bags of snacks for delivery to Cross Lanes Elementary, Point Harmony Elementary, and Andrew Jackson Middle School. The cost of this program is around $100 per year for each student. To help with the funding of this program, please send a check payable to Tyler Mountain/Cross Lanes Community Services. We are so grateful to all of the donors, supporters, and volunteers that give, and give, to help others. Those that volunteer every week at our pantry and office were recently honored at an appreciation luncheon at the Greenhouse. Tuesday Pantry Volunteers Thursday Pantry Volunteers Office Volunteers Tyler Mountain Volunteer Fire Department helped us by delivering to 32 families on Christmas Eve! Fed Ex Ground, YMCA Cross Lanes, and many caring individuals helped with sponsorships of Christmas toys. The Woman’s Club of Cross Lanes was in a food fight against the Dunbar and Sissonville Clubs. Each club collected food for their local pantry. The Cross Lanes club collected over 2,600 lbs. of food for our pantry!
