New & Improved
Benjamin Franklin has been called the “patron saint of advertising” because he used
the media of his time – newspapers, broadsides, letters, pamphlets, and word-of-mouth
– to sell products and ideas. In this activity, you and your group will study the history
of advertising, how it developed, and how it has changed. Your group will explore some
of the advertising methods used in colonial times and compare those techniques to
modern advertising. Your group will give presentations summarizing your research
and findings.
