Biology Prep Lesson Plan 10/13 5A(R): SWBAT Describe the stages of the cell cycle, including DNA replication and mitosis, and the importance of the cell cycle to the growth of organisms. Warm-Up: Students may do last minute studying for cell cycle exam. Virus project due for periods 3 and 5. Assessment: Cell cycle, cell differentiation, cancer and virus exam is given. 5D(S): SWBAT recognize that disruptions of the cell cycle lead to diseases such as cancer. 4C(R): SWBAT compare the structure of viruses to cells, describe viral reproduction, and describe the role of viruses causing diseases such as human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and influenza. 10/14 Warm-Up: Am I my own twin video clip 6A(R): SWBAT identify components of DNA, and describe how information for specifying the traits of an organism is carried in the DNA. Guided Practice: DNA notes Independent Practice: Jigsaw: Students will work in teams to read chapter 12-1, complete guided notes and share out to the class. KNEX DNA models Exit Ticket: Students must show completed notes and be able to explain their DNA models. 10/15- 6A(R): SWBAT identify 10/16 components of DNA, and describe how information for specifying the traits of an organism is carried in the DNA. 6C(S): SWBAT explain the purpose and process of transcription and translation using models of DNA and RNA. 6D(S): SWBAT recognize that gene expression is a regulated process. PSAT Testing: Reduced class length Warm-up: Students will be asked to choose a key discovery relating to DNA, write who made the discovery and the significance to the advancement of science. Guided Practice: Replication overview Replication video with guided notes: Video Independent Practice: Replication practice worksheet Breaking the code lab KNEX models Replication worksheet must be completed as homework if not finished during class time 10/17 6A(R): SWBAT identify components of DNA, and describe how information for specifying the traits of an organism is carried in the DNA. 6C(S): SWBAT explain the purpose and process of transcription and translation using models of DNA and RNA. 6D(S): SWBAT recognize that gene expression is a regulated process. Assessment: DNA & Replication quiz Virus project due for period 6 Guided Practice: Transcription/translation notes Transcription/translation handout using codon chart Independent Practice: Double bubble chart used to compare/contrast DNA & RNA based on video: Video Plans are subject to change to support the needs of the classroom.
