Lesson Plan Some students have a complete understanding of Linear Relations and therefore, need to be challenged when it comes to problems. This problem below will be intriguing for them. Lesson Title: Natural Phenomena Subject Area: Linear Relations Grade Level: 9 Learning Objectives: Collect, record, graph and analyze a set of data. Computer Functions: Student conducts independent research to collect a set of data. Specify Problem: In order to determine the activity and behaviors of natural occurrences, researches must collect and analyze data so that they can better understand. In unit 4 we learn that we can better understand how things work by studying the relationship between two things and how their relationship. Find some linear relationships in your life an examine them. Research and Analysis: Student will research and explore various phenomena by looking at supply and demand, as well as constant change over time. Results Presentation: A medium of presenting the information be it PowerPoint, Prezi, or a Wiki. Planning Computer Activities Before Computer Use: 1. Review linear equation, looking at the independent and dependent variables and how they work. 2. Brainstorm within the group various natural phenomena that have a linear relationship. During Computer Use: Each student will conduct their own research of natural phenomena to incorporate within the presentation. Therefore, it is expected that each student will be working diligently throughout class. Also, students will use a program such as Microsoft Excel to collect data in a table and create a graph. After Computer Use: Students will create a peer evaluation as well as review their presentation and findings. Supporting Activities: Each student will have access to a computer. Assessment: Students will be evaluated based on a rubric which they will be presented with prior to the project. PowerPoint presentation will be graded based on this rubric as students in this group are more self-sufficient.
