Minimum 3.0 GPA is required within major and overall
A minimum of 14 regular, non-education courses (56 units) must be completed prior to application for the education
semester, including English Composition or an equivalency, and English/American Literature and 6 college Math credits.
These courses will be used to calculate your GPA at time of admission into the education semester.
A grade of ‘C’ or better is necessary for all EDUC-prefix courses.
The Education Department considers student conduct review board and honor commission records, the comments of the
student and the deans, the student’s academic record, and evidence of professionalism in field experiences to determine
eligibility for the Education Semester.
Certificates will be earned in Pennsylvania and reciprocate with most other U.S. states. See your state’s education department
website for more information about reciprocity.
PAPA modules 1, 2 and 3 needed for all certificates: Reading, Writing and Mathematics must be passed before applying to

PRAXIS II Exam needed (select one): Biology (20235), Chemistry (20245), Physics (10265), or Mathematics (10061)
Praxis qualifying scores vary by year. Please see http://teaching.state.pa.us for current information for Pennsylvania.
All education courses carry simultaneous field experiences. Please register for EDUC 060, the field lab, with each education
course prior to student teaching.
A score of 560 or more on the SAT II (Level IC) may substitute for one math course
A score of 600 or more on the SAT II (Writing Subject Test) may substitute for the English Composition course
EDUC 340 may be fulfilled through DIS study-abroad program in Denmark. Other study abroad options will require a 9th
semester student teaching experience.
