Ozone Layer Protection: The Mission Goes On
The IOD celebration agenda comprises two segments: celebration in Yerevan on 16 September
and in Syunikmarz (region) on 17-19 September 2014

logo and slogan “The Mission Goes On”, blue hand tying ribbon to be handed
out by the entrance to the park

Photo exhibition on the ozone layer will be
announced on 1st August 2014. The
deadline for entries submission will be 10
September 2014. The selection of the best
photos will be exhibited in the park.
The demonstation will start with «Ozzy
Ozone» animation film (duration10.50 min
) followed by «Echo Planet» animation film
(duration 1 hour 18 min ) 2012 Thai 3D
animation film distributed by
KantanaGroup. It is the story of the
adventures of three young mento help save the
world from disaster recovery due to global
warming without any damage to the ozone
layer. Author's rights have been already
requested from Kantana Group. Alternatively
«From discovery to
recovery»documentarywillbedemonstrated.

Background:
The NOU of Armenia has planned awareness events in five remote frontier
communities ofSyunikmarz, namely Tsav, Chakaten, Nerkin Hand, Shikahox,
and Srashen to raise awareness of schoolchildren in remote areas living in high
altitude, hence most vulnerable to UV radiation
Aim
The events will be aimed at raising awareness of schoolchildren of that area on the
problem of ozone layer depletion, international response and ozone layer related
treaties, national activity as well as harmful ultra-violet radiation and means of
protection.
Schoolchildren from five schools of Tsav, Chakaten, Nercin Hand, Shikahox, and Srashen
communities will participate in the awareness events and competitions which will make
91 schoolchildren in total. Additional participants will include any residents of the
communities that will wish to participate.
The Painting Competition, The Essay Competition and The Young Artists Performance
Competition will be announced on 1 September 2014. The deadline for submitting the
entries will be 15 September 2014. The Juries Board consisting of the NOU and the
representatives of the Ministry of Nature Protection will select the winners who will be
announced on 17-19 December 2014 during the Award ceremony.
The National Ozone Unit has planned to award winners from 5 communities in three
nominations “The Best Painting”, “The Best Essay” and “The Best Performance” with
bicycles as a practical encouragement to further promote the winners to outreach the
ozone-related information in their communities. Other participants will receive an
awareness set containing stationary items, informational note-pads and T-shirts.
The best pictures, the best performances and the best essays will be uploaded to the
NOU website.

Transportation
The Painting Competition, The Essay Competition and The Young Artists Performance
Competition
Transportation from Yerevan to the villages and back (round trip), as well as between the
villages will be provided by the Ministry of Nature Protection which will be a valuable
contribution to the implementation of the “Institutional Strengthening Project”, Phase III
apart from the in-kind contribution envisaged by the Project Document.
