I read with interest your recent advertisement for an Oral Historian. I am an experienced Cultural Historian
with skills and experience that closely match your requirements. Below, I have outlined my qualifications and
experience as they relate to your advertised criteria.

My Experience and Qualifications
Research skills in a relevant discipline and/or
specialist knowledge in one or more of:
Australian social history; industrial history;
history of photography
My qualifications include a Master of Arts (Australian Studies) from
Monash University, and I have specialist expertise in Australian
social and industrial history. Field work includes recording oral
histories for National Library of Australia projects such as ‘Childhood
Tradition and Change, ‘Tradition Bearers’ and the ‘Findlay Music
Collection’
Experience in conducting and documenting oral
history interviews
In addition to National Library of Australia projects and individual
oral histories, I have recorded and documented 45 whole-of-life oral
histories for the National Film & Sound Archive program with
nationally prominent individuals from the Australian music, film and
television industries
Excellent communication and interpersonal
skills
Each of my roles throughout my career has required exceptional
communication and interpersonal skills – from interviewing to event
management, radio presentation and station management
Experience in writing historical narratives of a
high professional standard, especially for online
platforms
My cultural history work includes historical narratives for on-line
publication by relevant institutions. I have published articles in
scholarly journals and also have creative and technical writing skills
which I have used in print and electronic media.
Ability to contribute to a project team
environment with an understanding of project
management principles and processes
My career includes a range of project roles, most recently with the
Childhood, Tradition & Change project for the National Library of
Australia
Experience with the use of/or a willingness to
learn a museum collection management
database such as Emu, and handling artefacts
I have experience using a range of recording and collection
management software and hardware, including programming,
database design and management. I am experienced in a vast range
of software, platforms and PC configurations including data entry
and migration. I have strong technical skills and enjoy new technical
challenges.
