Learner Engagement Policy
The College aims to proactively seek the views of all its learners
to support the review and improvement of all its services.
To implement the policy the College will:

Support the “Student Association” to maximise its engagement with the
college by:-.
 Financially supporting a Sabbatical Student President post.
 Staffing the post of the Student Association Officer whose primary role
is to facilitate and support the Student Association.
 Providing an office and resources to support the effective operation of
the Student Association.

Provide the arrangements to appoint course representatives and ensure
they effectively contribute to providing views of the college services by: Organising the annual election of course representatives for all full
and substantive part-time further and higher education programmes
and providing training in the role.
 Organising monthly meetings between course representatives and
curriculum managers
 Organising monthly meetings between course representatives and the
Principal/Vice Principal and other key managers.

Seek the views of all learners on full and substantive part-time further and
higher education programmes through surveys where outcomes and
follow up actions are reviewed by: Curriculum teams
 The Curriculum and Services Organisation and Quality Groups
 The College FE and HE Academic Boards
 The College Directorate and the Governing Body
Methodology of conducting surveys will vary according to the nature of
different groups with arrangements being modified for learners on
Entry/Pre-Entry, Train to Gain and full cost programmes.

Seek the views of learners on specific areas of the college through
forums designed to gain engagement on topics such as catering and
residential accommodation.

Use the tutorial programme, both 1:1 and whole group tutorials, to
capture learner views on specific issues. Course managers will feed
these views to curriculum leaders, who will either action issues within
their curriculum area or raise cross-college issues with the Curriculum
Group.
6.
Provide arrangements for learners to make specific complaints in
situations where other forms of dialogue fail to resolve significant issues.
The nature and outcome of complaints will be reported formally within the
college with summaries being reviewed by the College Academic Boards,
the Directorate and the Governing Body.
