Monday 4 November 2013 Thanks to all those staff who came into school during half term to working with students. There is a mandatory Twilight session tomorrow (Tuesday) from 3-5pm. Department meetings today at 3pm On Wednesday we have visitors using A3 carrying out part of a coaching programme through Aspire. 4 members of the Senior team involved and there will be a subsequent course session for Outstanding Teachers, followed by some Twilight sessions. Monday 11 November – Remembrance Service, please let GCR know by Wednesday if you wish to attend. GWE was unable to carry out any data analysis over half term due to a significant amount of data being missing. This must be completed by lunchtime today. Tuesday 5 November is GCSE English Exam with approximately 60 Year 11 students involved. This will take place between 8.30-11.30 in the hall. Homework – use of planners. From today please can we ensure all students are using their planners. As Tutors please check that every student has their planner during the 10 minute registration. This should then be followed up by teachers in every lesson ensuring the planners are on the desk. If students have lost planners replacements can be purchased at a cost of £2.50. BDI – choir practice is on Wednesday. 6th form students will be selling poppies this week during Tutor Time. Thursday 7 November is a Year 7 Assembly plus Belgium students where the Royal British Legion will be in attendance. Year 11 Parents evening has moved (as per briefing notes on Friday 25 October). The school calendar has been updated on the Intranet. Friday 8 November 2013 Additional Voluntary CPD sessions on Tuesday evenings. These are fantastic sessions being run by staff, next Tuesday is CPA’s session on Engagement. Currently no staff have signed up. If you want to attend please email GCR by the end of Friday. It is important that staff attend additional sessions to enhance their T&L. (A list of dates is on the Intranet under Training). Please email GCR by the end of Friday for each session you wish to attend. 60 Year 9 students are visiting Bucks New University today. Talisha Neil and Remy Carpenter have been excluded for 5 days. Lesson Observations start next week. GWL will be sending a letter out today with points of note for observations. There will also be 25 probing questions. Data: thanks to CBR and KSA for their work on this. Years 9, 10 and 11 are complete, Years 7 and 8 will be completed by early next week. Staff now need to look at and understand their data and act on the information. Currently Year 11 result would be 43% which is not good enough. Remembrance Service on Monday 11 November, 6.30pm, St Mary’s Church. All staff seats have been allocated and are seated in the “purple” area. Student lists will be sent out later to inform staff of who will not be in school on Monday. BDI attended a Scanappeal reception with 3 6th form students and reported that The Mandeville School Badge is on their Tree of Life representing all the work that the school carries out. However in the meantime the school has 2 significant initiatives running: London Challenge Team (raised achievement in London in Eng/Ma/Sc).They will be targeting key students in Year 11, writing, marking and feeding back mock exams. Maths has started already, Science will begin today. Thanks to all the staff in Maths, English and Science departments for their support. PiXL – targeted intervention for Year 11 students in English and Maths. There will be initiatives from outside (local authority support) for good training in respect of Teaching and Learning. GWL will be considering the position of several difficult students within the school who have had lots of intervention but are still causing issues. Children In Need – GWL wants to bring some fun into school and also raise funds for charities. To that end there will be a series of events on Friday: Mufti for the students £1 Chocolate tombola (thanks to Mary and the science technicians) Design a Pudsey in house colours (thanks to CBA) please collect from your HOH and returned by Friday for judging 6th Form Penalty Shoot-out (thanks to the PE department) Pin the Mandeville Badge on Pudsey Tutors please ensure that every student writes in their planners that it is Mufti on Friday and that they will need to bring in some money for the activities. Armistice Day: 2 minutes silence will be held today at 11am. Please keep students in tutor time and the bell will sound at 11am for the start and again at 11.02 for the end of the 2 mins silence. Break time will then start and lesson 3 will commence at 11.20. Remembrance Assemblies this week, please ask students to have some money with them on their day for a collection. HOH are targeting 20 students who are not making sufficient progress. These students need to be sent to see CBA at the beginning of Tutor Time today (CBA has emailed the list). Feedback was 95% of staff felt the session was good or outstanding. DWI has created a certificate which will be given to every staff member who attends the voluntary sessions and this hits the 8 teachers’ standards. Trainers will also receive a certificate. The next session is on Differentiation and takes place on 26 November. If you wish to attend please let GCR know as soon as possible. Child Protection Training next Thursday for those staff who are new to the school and also those who require an update. All staff who are required to attend will have received an email. Tonight’s football match at Waddesdon kicks off at 4pm. Each Friday after that there will be a friendly staff “kick-about”. Attendance: whole school from September is 93.4%, national average is 93.5%. However some year groups have been particularly low this week with lots of unauthorised absences.
