Stories of Soldiers…Contributions from Campus & Community Members (with an Emphasis on
WWII) at Roberta’s Art Gallery – University Center
Monday – Thursday: 10 am – 6 pm
Friday: 10 am – 3 pm
The exhibit is a collection of memorabilia from a cross-section of our community; the soldiers;
including parents, siblings, neighbors, and country. Many contributions came from staff and students
here on campus. Examples of what you will see: military coins, interviews with WWII veterans in our
community, newspaper articles from the 1940's, family photos, WWII books, political cartoons,
uniforms.
Saturday, November 3
Veterans and Service Members Appreciation Day at the UW-Whitewater football game vs. UWEau Claire: Perkins Stadium 3 pm
Warhawk Athletics and the National Champion Warhawk Football Team are providing free tickets to
student and community veterans and service members. There will be recognition of veterans at halftime
and a military-themed show by the UWW Warhawk Marching Band. Tickets will be available at “will
call” before the game with presentation of a military identification card or DD214. Tickets courtesy of

Pentagon Pentathlon: Warhawk Alley – University Center
The Pentagon Pentathlon is a week-long tournament. The five events are bowling, pool, beanbags,
laddergolf, and trivia with each event taking place on a different night. Teams may consist of 5-8
members and the cost is $25 per team. Proceeds benefit the Wounded Warriors Project. Teams must pre-
register by Sunday, Oct. 29 for the pentathlon. Registration forms are available at Warhawk Alley and
the Veterans Lounge in Andersen Library.
Monday, November 5 – Tuesday, November 6
Veterans and Service Members Lounge Open House: Veterans and Service Members Lounge –
Andersen Library 8 am – 4 pm
Stop by for a snack or a cup of coffee, connect with other student veterans and service members, and
learn about local events and organizations.
Tuesday, November 6
Diversity of Military Experiences Panel: University Center 259, 11 am – 1:30 pm
Students, faculty, and community members are invited to attend a panel discussion featuring veterans
with a diversity of military experiences. The formal panel discussion and question and answer session
will take place from 12-1 pm. Bring your own brown bag lunch and socialize with veterans and panel
members from 11am -12 pm. A social reception with veterans and panel members will follow the
discussion from 1-1:30 pm.

Wednesday, November 7
Veteran Organizations and Resource Fair: University Center Concourse 9 am – 1 pm
Representatives from state and local organizations, to include Walworth County CVSO, Honor Flight,
Dry Hootch, Madison Vet Center, Disabled American Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and
the American Legion, will have information and resources available for student veterans and service
members. Students who are interested in becoming involved as a member of or volunteer for these
programs are encouraged to attend.

Holiday Card Signing for Wounded Warriors, Veterans, and Military Service Members:
University Center Concourse
Stop by from 9 am – 1 pm Wednesday, Nov. 7 or 12 pm – 2 pm Monday, Nov. 12 to a sign a card for a
Wounded Warrior, Veteran or Military Services Member. Holiday cards are provided and you provide
the message. Cards will be distributed by the Wisconsin American Red Cross.

Memorial Flag Display Commemorating Those Killed in Action in OEF/OIF/OND: Drumlin Hill
A visual display of the cost of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq since September 11, 2001 will be placed
on Drumlin Hill on the North side of the University Center. Over 2,500 flags will be placed on the hill;
each flag representing the lives of two United States Armed Forces personnel killed in action. During
World War II, 11.2% of the population served in the military. Since the beginning of the Global War on
Terror in 2001, only 0.45% of the population has served in the nation’s armed forces. In the words of
Winston Churchill, “Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few.”

Monday, November 12
Veterans Day Recognition Ceremony: Alumni Center flag pole 11 am
The campus community will be celebrating Veterans Day with a ceremonial firing of three volleys and
the playing of Taps by the Army and Air Force ROTC. Chancellor Richard Telfer, City Manager
Cameron Clapper, President of the Veterans and Service Members Student Organization Jacob Crouse,
and a military representative will be speaking about the importance of Veteran’s Day and how we as a
community can honor veterans.
Free Lunch at UW-Whitewater Dining Services 11 am – 2 pm
Free lunch will be offered at any UW-Whitewater dining facility for veterans. Veterans must be in
uniform or present their military ID or DD214. Lunch provided by UW-Whitewater University Dining
Services.
Art Gallery Reception: Roberta’s Art Gallery – University Center 12 noon - 1:30 pm
The theme this year: Stories of Soldiers…Contributions from Campus & Community Members with an
Emphasis on WWII. The exhibit is a collection of memorabilia from a cross-section of our community
including; soldiers, parents, siblings, neighbors, and country. There will be speakers presenting a
sampling of the exhibit.
