The amount of data organisations generate is growing exponentially, across all sectors. There is increasing
awareness of how crippling it can be to lose such essential business data.
A Fully Managed Backup Service
Backups are incremental forever
The backup solution on offer is a fully managed
service. This means that all data being backed-up is
proactively monitored, by a dedicated account
manager.
Once the initial backup has been uploaded backups
run incrementally forever. This means that only the
incremental changes are uploaded daily/hourly or
however the customer wishes backups to be
scheduled.
Any issues with backups which account managers
are not able to troubleshoot are escalated to our
technical team, who are on-hand at all times.
Technical support is not outsourced anywhere
beyond BTL, and customers are not expected to wait
in a call queue when needing support.
What can be backed up?
The software utilised, Asigra, is able to backup any
file type/data base across any operating system.
How are my backups monitored?
I don’t know how much data I have
If your organisation is unsure how much data resides
across your network BTL are able to conduct what is
known as a LAN Discovery.
This process scans all data shares across all
systems and provides a breakdown of exactly what
data resides within your network. From there it is
much easier to establish what exactly needs to be
backed up, and what can be excluded.
How do I get my data uploaded initially?
BTL will conduct the installation either onsite or
remotely depending on the customer’s requirements.
Once the software is installed and the backup
configuration is complete the initial backups are then
taken.
Backups are proactively monitored by account
managers. Account managers and customers alike
have access to an online monitoring portal.
The portal is continually developed in-house by BTL’s
development team.
What happens when I need to do a restore?
Either an engineer at BTL can login remotely when a
restore is required or the customer can conduct the
restore themselves through the DS User interface.
Files/databases/individual emails can either be
restored back to their original location or an
alternative location.
How do I get in touch if there’s a problem?
The initial backups will be taken in an encrypted
format and placed on a portable media, such as a
USB hard drive. Once this is complete the drive is
couriered securely to BTL’s primary data centre in
Manchester, avoiding the initial seed to be sent over
the customer’s internet connection.
Full replication occurs between the primary data
centre in Manchester and the secondary site in
London. Both data centres are tier 4 accredited.

Every customer generally develops a good working
relationship with their account manager at BTL.
If the customer has a problem with the software or a
particular backup set they can additionally raise a
support case through the portal. This will be
addressed immediately by the technical team.

What distinguishes Asigra within the market?

How long has Asigra been around?

Agentless Architecture:
Encryption:
The software is only required to run on a single
device providing a single point of administration
across an entire network.
All data is encrypted and decrypted by the client
software ensuring encryption both in flight, and at
rest. Encryption is enforced using three optional
standards, DES, AES128-bit and AES256-bit.
This reduces the overhead on the production network
to a minimum, as well as being completely nonpervasive for critical servers and applications.
De-duplication and Compression:
De-duplication and compression takes place before
the data leaves the production server, significantly
reducing network traffic.
Incremental Forever Backups:
Only incremental block changes are backed up on a
day to day basis, significantly reducing backup
windows.
Full servers and desktops can be re-created in
minutes. The server returns exactly as it was before
the hard disk failure with the same IP address, Active
Directory and Registry.
Full Mail Backups/ Message Level Restore:
BTL can protect all e-mail data types including Full
Exchange, Novell, GroupWise and Lotus Notes.
Hot database & Open File Backup:
Backups of SQL, Oracle, Progress and DB2 &
Access databases can be done “Hot” whilst running.
Local Storage:
The software also keeps a copy of data locally
increasing restore speeds of recently backed up data.
VPN Connections:
Asigra is an IP based backup software enabling
backups to be conducted through any form of internet
connection.

WEB PORTAL MONITORING

BTL have independently developed their own web-monitoring portal.
All customer are provided with access to this tool allowing them to track the current status and
progress of their backups, through the intuitive and easy to use layout.
This level of access to monitoring for customers is almost unheard of within the Online Backup world.
BTL believe that it is important for clients to have the ability to monitor their own backup status at
anytime. In any case BTL account managers proactively monitor all customer reports, resolving any
backup issues immediately.
Figure 1 – Illustrates how any problematic
backup sets can be easily identified and
then addressed accordingly.
E-mail notifications are sent every morning at 7:30am, reporting any problematic backup sets. These
are received by customers and account managers, enabling a quick resolution.

Figure 2 the diagram above demonstrates
how the software is installed onsite. The
software backs up the local storage in
addition to the offsite data centres, based
in Manchester and London.
There is also the option to backup remote laptop
users, as illustrated through simply installing the
Asigra laptop client.
This is a simplified version of the Asigra software and
is extremely easy to install and configure.
Furthermore any additional sites can be backed up
through installing an additional DS Client (as shown).
Backup Technology have a reputation within the
enterprise market for not being able to do enough for
their clients.
