TOURING PROGRAMME
BLOOD WEDDING
A universal tragedy about family ties, relationships and daring to have the
passion to live the life you want, with whom you want. Co-pro with Dundee
Rep & Derby Theatre then tour.
SOLID LIFE OF SUGAR WATER
by Jack Thorne. Intensely affecting piece, charting a relationship through loss,
love and change. Theatre Royal Plymouth co-pro, then Edinburgh Festival,
London then tour
SORRY
Verbatim piece about life as a disabled person today. An adaptable, portable
performance that will be performed at public events & alternative theatre
spaces.
INTERNATIONAL AND OUTDOOR PROGRAMME
MEMORIAL DEVELOPMENT
Aerial and actor training towards the development of a major outdoor
performance in 2018 as part of 1418Now.
PAKISTAN
Advising on strategy and training practices for teachers working with disabled
people in schools in Pakistan (BC).
BRAZIL
Working with Crescer e Viver to train up D/d aerial performers in the lead up to
2016 Olympics
BANGLADESH
Creating a supportive arts environment for D/d artists, leading to a professional
performance in 2016 (BC).
TRAINING & LEARNING PROGRAMME
ENSEMBLE
One year skills training for up to 12 artists in collaboration with drama schools
and other arts organisations.
Goal is to remove barriers to further education and have a team of skilled
workshop leaders, performers and directors.
YOUNG ARTISTIC ADVISORS
6 young disabled people aged 6-16, performing at outdoor festivals and
theatres across London. Ongoing support and engagement throughout
HACKNEY PARTNERSHIP
With Immediate Theatre and Huddleston Centre.
20 disabled young theatre makers co-authoring a newly devised piece and
sharing with an audience
NEW WRITING AND OTHER PROGRAMME
WRITE TO PLAY
1 year new writing course for 5 writers resulting in a full length play. Year 2:
Liverpool Everyman, Bolton Octagon, Manchester Royal Exchange.
PLAYLABS
1 day development sessions for artists. Dramaturgical support to help writers
think in new ways about their work.

2016-17
TOURING PROGRAMME
HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME
Alex Bulmer’s 2010 BBC R4 drama (co-wrote with Jack Thorne) adapted for
the stage. Co-pro with Manchester Royal Exchange, exploring BSL in the
round.
SMALL VENUE SHOW
Hard-hitting theatre exploring the impact of cuts to benefits. Touring to smallscale and to non-traditional spaces.
The tour will include London, NE and NW.
RAMPS TO THE MOON
Major six year co-pro & tour, bringing disabled talent to the mid-scale circuit: 1
play pa: WYP, NWT, Birmingham Rep, Nott Playhouse, + 2 more. Artistic input
from disabled artists throughout & programme of training behind the scenes in
a bid to achieve true sector change.
INTERNATIONAL AND OUTDOOR PROGRAMME
GARRINCHA
One of the greatest ever footballers; a captivating, colourful and charismatic
disabled figure. Opening in Brazil around the time of the Paras, then
transferring to the UK to tour.
ROMEO & JULIET
The accumulation of the extensive Bangladesh project creating the first
inclusive cast on National Theatre stage Dhaka.

Next step of long-term aerial training and skills development programme
(leading to 2018)

PRODUCTION-RELATED OUTREACH & INSET
Throughout the 3-year programme, Graeae will offer formal and informal
education
connected to the shows delivered by deaf and disabled practitioners (inc.
Ensemble).
ENSEMBLE & TOUR
Year 1’s participants: Ensemble team go on tour to schools around London
with a new show. Year 2’s participants: One year skills training in North West
for up to 12 artists. In collaboration with drama schools and other arts
organisations.
YOUNG ARTISTIC ADVISORS
Developing their role, giving further opportunities and exploring progression
routes for the older YAAs (e.g.Ensemble). Recruit for more YAAs.

2017-18
TOURING PROGRAMME
STRATFORD TO SKEGNESS
The RSC are taking Hamlet to every country in the world so we hit England,
taking fully accessible Shakespeare to people in pubs, clubs, bingo halls in
areas of low engagement with the arts.
RAMPS TO THE MOON
Year two of six.
12 week tour to six partner venues of a new production. Graeae inputting
artistically and on sector change in partner organisations.
WRITE TO PLAY TOUR
A new production by one of the graduates of the Write to Play programme.
INTERNATIONAL AND OUTDOOR PROGRAMME
THE GARDEN
This outdoor performance by Alex Bulmer will be reworked for Hull City of
Culture in 2017 working with local choirs and newly trained North-East-based
performers.
