FRAMEWORK COOPERATION AGREEMENT FOR JOINT SUPERVISION OF PHD CANDIDATES
The parties to this agreement are <name of institution> and the University of Oslo herein

University Director Gunn-Elin Aa. Bjørneboe and Faculty Dean <name> (on behalf of the
University of Oslo)

The agreement commences at <dd.mm.yyyy> and runs for an initial period of <number of
years> years.
The two institutions are interested in cooperating in doctoral studies programmes held at the
two universities, and in organizing PhD exchanges. For this reason they sign this agreement in
accordance with the following:
PROVISIONS
First
The object of the present agreement is to establish a basis for cooperation to enable students
on the doctoral programme ……………….. (full name of programme) at the University of Oslo
and students on the doctoral programme ……………….. (full name of programme) at the
University of ……………….. (name of institution) to carry out their doctoral theses under a system
of joint supervision.
Second
The University of Oslo and the University of ……………….. (name of institution) will draw up an
Individual Agreement for Joint Supervision for each PhD candidate carrying out his/her thesis
under a system of joint supervision.
Third
The joint supervision of the doctoral thesis will be carried out in accordance with the
regulations approved by each institution and with the joint supervision agreements drawn up
for each student.
Fourth
The University of Oslo and the University of ……………….. (name of institution) must give express
approval of the PhD candidate’s intention to carry out his/her thesis under a system of joint
supervision.

Fifth
The doctoral thesis defended under the provisions of this agreement will be recognized by the
universities signing the agreement in accordance with the corresponding regulations.
Sixth
The conditions relating to the deposit of the thesis, reproduction, publication, the use of the
results, and author’s rights and intellectual property rights must be stated in the Individual
Agreement for Joint Supervision.
Seventh
Each institution will establish sources of funding to meet the costs of this cooperation
agreement.
Eighth
This agreement shall have a duration of <number of years> years from the date of its signing.
Before termination, the two parties may extend the agreement, expressly and in writing, for
periods of one year. Nonetheless, either party may express its wish to terminate the
agreement by giving three (3) months’ written notice to the other party. Termination will not
affect the doctoral thesis currently being prepared under the provisions of this cooperation
agreement.
And to this effect, hereby sign this document, in duplicate (all copies), in English and in
