New Learning Resources/New Summit School’s 20th Anniversary
Founded in 1991 by Executive Director Nancy New, New Learning Resources, Inc. was an educational
training service to include an onsite learning lab. Consultation services for teachers including various staff
development programs, curriculum design, program development and implementation, and trainings for
teaching the diverse learners. Because of the demand for more full-time educational services for school
aged children, the learning lab grew into a full service school in 1996. At that time, New Learning
Resources, Inc. earned accreditation and established an entity for New Learning Resources, New
Summit School. In 1997, New Summit School was accredited through Southern Association for
Colleges and Schools (SACS) and the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) as a Special
Purpose School. New Learning Resources, Inc. continued to expand its services nationally. In 2001, Dr.
Nancy New introduced New Learning Resources Online distance learning program. Began as a paperdriven curriculum and assessment program, New Learning Resources Online grew into a fully
accredited online high school diploma program reaching students all across the nation. In 2004, New
Learning Resources, Inc. expanded its school operations with a second location in Greenwood,
Mississippi. North New Summit School, Greenwood is very similar to New Summit School, Jackson
offering a K-12th grade, co-educational, special purpose school. Today, New Summit School, North New
Summit School, and New Learning Resources Online falls under the umbrella of the state accredited New
Learning Resources School District.
New Learning Resources School District (NLRSD) offers an array of teaching styles and needs for
students, from the gifted student to those that may have learning challenges. We have parents/guardians
that travel from Louisiana and South Mississippi to take advantage of our school’s various educational
programs. The parents/guardians embrace the custom-designed individual educational plans that are
designed for each student. The schools recognize the need for non-traditional instructional settings that
provide one-on-one academic attention while encouraging emotional and social growth.
New Learning Resources School District (NLRSD) offers students an option to earn a high school
diploma. Fully accredited by the Distance Education and Training Council (DETC) and Southern
Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), New Learning Resources School District offers high
school students many different options:

Standard High School Diploma: A fully accredited high school diploma program that matches
the courses offered in a traditional high school setting. The standard high school diploma is
offered in a classroom setting or online. The standard high school diploma graduates will attend:
State Universities, colleges, tech-schools, employment and list in the military.

Career High School Diploma: A fully accredited high school diploma program for students
looking to pursue a future in a vocational/trade environment. This curriculum offers instruction in
all of the core areas of study. The career high school diploma is offered in a classroom setting or
online.

Senior Recovery Program: A fully accredited standard high school diploma program that offers
seniors who did not graduate due to subject area testing and/or lack a few credits, the opportunity
to graduate.

Summer School Program: A fully accredited summer school program that offers classes for
high school students who need to repeat a course or who wish to take a course in order to
advance.
New Learning Resources School District (NLRSD) is the umbrella for New Summit School, North
New Summit School and New Learning Resources Online. NLRSD is a new approach to education.
Open enrollment, life skill classes, online courses, summer school program, action based learning and
character education programs are some of the features that distinguish our schools from others. What
began as a one-on-one learning lab over 20 years ago is now a fully accredited school district that is able
to provide a quality education for every student.
