NATURE AND SCOPE
The role holder will contribute to the growth of Rugby Union by undertaking high quality, engaging and
targeted coaching in schools, introducing all variants of the game to new players and supporting their
transition into clubs and other regular activity. They will particularly focus on work with schools and
enthuse young people who do not currently play rugby and create willingness for staff to get involved in
growing the rugby programme.

Play an active role in supporting teachers and others in increasing their knowledge of, and
confidence to deliver, the game.
Deliver high quality, appropriate coaching with targeted groups of players some of which may be
from challenging backgrounds.
Clearly model and promote the RFUs Core Values during sessions and when engaging school staff.
RESPONSIBILITES

Deliver high quality coaching to groups, and in environments, as directed by the Rugby
Development Officer
Support teachers and other adults in schools to introduce the game to students and to improve the
quality of rugby experience ad provision
Contribute to the growth of the numbers playing rugby and transitioning into rugby clubs and/or
those who are regularly playing rugby in other environments
Maintain high professional standards and the promotion of these standards in the schools you
coach in.
Report activity and output as required
Act as an ambassador for, and promote the best interests of the RFU at all times, including the
promotion of the RFU Core Values.

PERSON SPECIFICATION
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPEREINCE

Must have a valid RFU CRB/DBS clearance
Educated to a minimum of 'GCSE' standard or equivalent and preferably with at least five GCSEs at
grade C or above.
RFU Level 2 coaching qualification (Preferable UKCC Rugby Union Level 2).
Current RFU Coach License holder, or undertake to gain one before deployment.
Current Driving License with no more than six points
Current RFU Enhanced CRB disclosure (need to secure this prior to starting employment)
Experience of coaching Rugby Union to young people aged 11 - 18 in schools, in line with the RFU
Coach Development model
A sound knowledge and understanding of the game and its operation
Willingness to attend RFU Coaching in Schools induction prior to deployment.

Proven time management and prioritization skills
Hold a current driving license and have a car available for work

All Role Holders must maintain an appropriate standard of confidentiality. Any disclosures of
confidential information (including personal information kept on computer or other media) made
unlawfully outside the proper course of duty will be treated as a serious disciplinary offence.
Role Holders must be willing to be observed whilst coaching and contribute in a process of selfreflection and personal improvement in relation to their coaching.
The role description, person specification, role grade and role title may be subject to change at the
discretion of the RFU and in accordance with business developments. Any changes will be
communicated to the role holder as appropriate.
