Trauma Nurse Core Course: Provider 7th Edition Course New 2014! Sponsored by Avera McKennan Hospital Emergency Service & Prairie Lakes Healthcare Trauma Service in Watertown, SD April 22 & 23, 2015 (Wednesday & Thursday) Course Description A team approach has evolved as one of the most effective and prevalent means to insure delivery of high quality, comprehensive trauma care. As an important member of the trauma team, you, the professional nurse, may provide trauma care in a variety of settings ranging from pre-hospital to hospital-based environments. Optimal care of the trauma patient results from the integration of both pre-hospital and in-hospital resources, and matching the resources of an institution with the immediate needs of the trauma patients. Thus, a reduction in the number of trauma deaths should occur because the injured patient is appropriately assessed and lifesaving interventions are initiated. If you are responsible to perform a rapid initial assessment, institute lifesaving interventions, monitor the patient’s responses to resuscitation efforts and communicate with other team members, this course has been specifically designed for you! Course Objectives The Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) is designed to provide core-level trauma knowledge and psychomotor skills associated with the delivery of professional nursing care to the trauma patient. Upon completion of the TNCC course, the participant should be able to: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Identify the common mechanisms of injury associated with trauma. Describe the pathophysiologic changes as a basis for signs and symptoms. Describe the nursing assessment of patients with trauma. Describe the appropriate interventions for patients with trauma. Describe mechanisms for evaluating the effectiveness of nursing interventions for trauma patients. Target Audience The Trauma Nurse Core Course has been designed for Registered Nurses. It is recommended that the participant have at least six months of clinical nursing experience in an emergency care setting.
