He attended the school between 1945 and 1950. He was a great servant of the rugby and cricket clubs. Our oldest Member Yet A new member has been recruited to our association. He is 95 years of age (our oldest member yet!) and lives in London. His name is Francis J Thomas. He attended Camp Hill between 1920 and 1925. Outstanding Events The two events that occurred during our fourth year since re-formation that stood out were The new Headmaster, Mr Vincent Darby, enthusiastically taking up the office of President, and The Annual Dinner held at the School and attended by over 100. Our three speakers, Headmaster, Head Boy and David Dollery (son of the late 'Tom' Dollery - first professional Captain of Warwickshire County Cricket Club) were all well received and most amusing. New Member New members 'trickle' onto our list. If you come into contact with contemporaries 'sell' the Association to them. Annual subscriptions Annual subscriptions were due on 1st April (Life members, those paying by standing order and boys still in their four year membership exempted). The subscription remains ten pounds. Please make cheques payable to 'Camp Hill Edwardians Association'. If you would prefer to pay by standing order please request one when returning the questionnaire. Flagship of Education The flagpole we have provided for the School has been erected. One of our members, John Davies, donated generously towards the cost of the flagpole and the oldest member, 'Sam' Sharman funded the table wines at the Dinner. Thank you both. Reunions Five reunions have been held by 'Old Boys'. We hope to have accounts of them in the Chronicle. These related to particular years at School - we look forward to hearing of more. Coming Year Events Events that we hope will take place in the coming year are a visit to Birmingham Council House, a visit to the House of Commons and a further visit to the 'old' Camp Hill School. Hon Sec. Visit to Jaguar Cars Our hard working Hon Sec. set up a successful visit to Jaguar Cars. He is currently working on a visit to Warwick for those evacuated there in 1939. Invitation A general invitation to Camp Hill RFC for Vice Presidents' Day and Chairman's Day is extended. We have one also at Camp Hill OE Cricket Club in Rumbush Lane for the School v Old Boys match, usually the last Sunday in June. Death of Len Bowles Former master Len Bowles, who was a life member of the Association, passed away 23rd February. He was a most popular, versatile teacher at the School 1963-76. He was 89 and an obituary in full will appear in the Chronicle. Member of AROPS We have become members of AROPS - the Association of Representatives of Old Pupils Societies. More than 260 schools are members. It aims to 'provide a forum for the exchange of views and experience between representative of old boys' societies'.
