INITRODUCTION TO THE COURSE
Diploma in information science is designed to equip trainee with relevant knowledge, skill and
attitude that will enable him/her to operate in the various sectors in information service industry.
He/she should be able to organize, produce and manage information services while upholding the
professionalstandards. The graduate of this Couse will be able to work as information and
communication technology assistant, library assistant, archives assistant, records or management
officer
Graduate of this Cousewill able to work in a salaried or self-employed. To archives this
objective, moduleunits such as entrepreneurship, communication skills life skills and information
and communication technology have been integrated.

GENERAL OBJECTIVE OF THE COURSE
Apply information communication technology (ICT) IN INFORMATION services
provision in the society
Organize information in relation to acquisition policies
Apply the facts of conservation and preservation of information
Use information marketing in an organization
Apply techniques needed in archives and records management in an information Centre
Reorganize the role of professional ethics in information industry
Recognizeself-employment as an alternative to salaried employment
DURATION OF THE COUSE
The Couse is designed to have 2970 hours. The training spends 2310 hours in the institution and

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
A trainee entering this Couse should have any of the following minimum requirements: Kenya certificate of secondary education (KCSE) with an averagegrade of C plain with
C Plain in English, Kiswahili and any one social science
o OR
 Relevant craft course in information science
o OR
 Equivalent qualifications as determined by Kenya national examination council (KNEC).
EXAMINATION AND AWARD OF CERTIFICATE
Assessment
The assessment of all the modules shall be competency based.
Internal examinations
The college shall conduct course work and/or project work assessmentsbased on the
competences acquiredduring the training. The institute will offer internal examination at the end
of each module and keep the records for use at the end of the course to determine the final grade.
External examination
The Kenya national examination council (KNEC) will offer external examinations to trainees in
all modules covered during the training.

The KNEC will issue the candidates with result slips for modules passed and a final certificate in
diploma in information science.
CRAFT CERTIFICATE IN LIBRARY AND INFORMATION STUDIES
Library and information Studies is intended for those persons who wish to qualify and work as
information professionals, archivist, record managers, librarians, library assistance, library
attendance and Data base managers. It’s structured in two modules, Module 1 and Module 2
Aims of Craft Certificate in Library and Information Studies
 To provide library trainee to appreciate library and information services
 To enable the trainee to carry out library and information services using appropriate tools
and facilities
 To provide customer-focused library and information services
 To manage and provide records, archives and mail services
Entry Requirements
 Passed Kenya Certificate of secondary Education (KCSE) with an average grade of D
 Equivalent qualification as determined by Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC)
